Central Park NYC is 778 acres; Belle Isle is 982 acres. Cherish that beautiful island!

We're covering ours in concrete and racing cars on it.

You know the racing contract is up 2018. Tell the DNR not to renew the contract. The concrete paddock can be removed and trees and grass put back where they belong!

The video is impressive to be sure but where are the people? My favorite shots are of the MacArthur Bridge and the freighter.

Precisely. I found portions of that footage graphic, for this reason.

Not sure what the your problem is with cars on the island. You must miss the old days of car racing on it. I am sure they could return if you aren't happy with what the State has done with the park.

Kind of a dumb post, no? You've given an ultimatum of either screwing up the islands natural environment with concrete and auto racing, or letting it go unkempt and unsafe. Please, feel free to petition Penske to put a racetrack in your neighborhood.

I don't see how anyone could find fault with the way the island looks now compared to its almost abandoned state before it was leased. Racing and cruising has always occurred on Gratiot, Woodward, Telegraph and Belle Isle causing jam ups and accidents. If people are going to race there now, at least it is legal and good publicity and bringing in money for the city.
