    • Huron Township’s annual Applefest is set for Oct. 3 and 4 in downtown New Boston. The event includes a parade, an old-time fiddlers’ contest, arts and crafts, entertainment, food and a kids’ korner. Visit huronapplefest.com for more information.

    • MJR's Fall Children's Film Festival kicks off this Saturday and Sunday with a special viewing of "Home." Children ages 12 and younger are admitted free and parents pay $1. Advanced tickets are not available. Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first served basis until the theater reaches capacity. View the full film lineup here.
    • The Gibraltar Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its third annual fall festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Boblo Pavillion, 29340 S. Gibraltar Road. The city will provide hay rides, trunk or treating, a farmers market, a petting zoo, music, food and crafters among other events. The day is sponsored by the Gibraltar Downtown Development Authority.     • Wild Weekends return from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 and 4 at the Heritage Park Petting Farm, 12803 Pardee Road, Taylor. Whispering Pines Animal Kingdom will show life on the wild side. Gus and Gia the camels will be making their much-awaited appearance. Admission is $5 a person and free for those ages 1 and younger. For more information, call 734-374-5946.

    • Children and adults alike will be able to check out emergency vehicles up close with Southgate's Touch a Truck event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The event will be held at Homer Howard Park, in front of City Hall, 14400 Dix-Toledo. Participants will be able to climb on and explore vehicles including fire trucks, police cars, construction vehicles and more. All vehicles will be stationary and each will have an attendant to answer any questions.
