• Wyandotte's annual Fall Citywide Garage sale takes place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Read more about the garage sale at the News-Herald's preview article.

• Family members and friends of Jacob Marion are holding a cornhole tournament fundraiser for the young man who was struck by a train in February of 2012. The event takes place at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the home of Terry Matthews and Vickey Allen, 34041 Steadman Road, New Boston. The cost to play in the tournament is $20. Hot dogs, chips, pop and water will be available. No registration is required. • The Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy hosts “Incredible Insects” 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Gibraltar Bay Unit of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, 28820 East River Road, Grosse Ile. Read more about the event here. • A tutu fun run/walk takes place Sept. 12 as part of the third annual Christy’s Dance in the Park 5K and Fun Run at Heritage Park. All proceeds will go to Christy’s Legacy of Hope, a Taylor-based charity for orphans. The charity is named for the late Christy DePriest Wright, who danced in the Taylor program as a little girl

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by a free kids’ run at 8, the 5K at 8:30 and the family walk at 10, all following the same course at Heritage Park.
