Thread: Strolling Areas

    Default Strolling Areas

Did Detroit have other prostitution-areas before the current ones took hold, and when did the current places start to get popular? For example, John R between 8 Mile and 6 Mile; Harper around the old Holiday Inn that's now the Travel Inn; the Triangle; etc. Is 1 area considered "better" or "safer" than another? Someone has posted on another board that a couple of regulars on John R around Lantz were, at one-time popular "models", 1 for a Budweiser calendar, the other a Georgia-based teen model with a popular website around 2001-02.

I think you should post this in the "Looking For A Good Time" section.

I agree. This board is not for telling the history of the Booby Trap.

    Now-Now.

Maybe the person is trying to gather research information for some sort of sociological paper [[or something or other, we can only hope and assume) or charity work. All I can add is that 3rd street got bad in certain parts, Michigan Ave. between Wyoming and Clark always has at least 3 streetwalkers prominently ambling about every time I head downtown, I'm sure parts of Ann Arbor Trail, Spinoza, Tireman, and those other "cruise areas" were popular for some sort of activity or another,-and yeah, 8 Mile has it's issues. It got so silly there that you had "churches" acting like busybodying, extortionist Pharisees getting tabs [[http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/14/shaming-prostitute-patrons-johns-public_n_1964925.htm)lon who visits strip clubs, adult bookstores, or solicits prostitutes and then trying to ruin their life worse [[like that guy in Oklahomahttp://www.democraticunderground.com...ss=102x1225799).

You'll notice that these activities usually occur in parts of the city closest to the suburban borders. Unless, high incidents of crime build up in said area or you got issues of human trafficking, running around like a video vigilante isn't the answer. Church folks should be in the habit of offering hopeful options to prostitutes in ugly situations-like providing asylum, resources, rehab, spiritual support, etc. and not getting in the habit of picking up stones to throw.

Thank you to G-DDT. I could care less to patronize any of these areas, I was wondering solely from an interest in the historical development of the city -- same as with people's questions on public transit, restaurants, whatever, from past decades to today...what motivated any industry or activity to be in a particular area of town versus another part of town.

Back to the not-so-halcyon days of the Cass Corridor... um.., err, midtown.

Where were the redlight districts and brothels would be interesting to know for Detroit history? I think it was Brush back in sixties and parts of Woodward near downtown....there was the sassy cat theatre and assorted burlesques along Woodŵard live girl shows and lap dances in dark porn theatres.......

Yeah, it was Cass Corridor centered around Midtown. Not anymore, though.

Third St. used to have a couple of bars that were hotbeds of prostitution. The girls would cruise the bars and then take their johns to the hourly hotel across the street. This is about 1976 or so.
