Default Are You a Detroit Republican?

Looks like everyone is jumping on the "Detroit" bandwagon:

Is this really the face of the "Detroit Republican"?

If I remember right, about 20% of the Detroit vote went for Snyder in the last election cycle -- and that seemed a bit heavy for the Republicans to me.

Is it possible that the bankruptcy changed the political landscape in Detroit proper to make it now more "Grand Rapids-light"?

This is nothing new. Detroit and Michigan have always been fairly conservative. The folks who migrated to the city/state during the Auto Industry boom brought their political opinions with them from the South.

Remember, the reason Detroit to this day doesn't have a vibrant gay community is because the city's infamous and extremely vocal Christian block chased them away.

It may seem as though things have changed as far as actual representation is because folks no longer feel obligated to vote democrat since the labor unions have more or less been decimated with the decline in manufacturing jobs.

And also, it's the fact that the population of Michigan skews much older now. Seniors have always been relatively conservative.

The last Gubernatorial election featured a guy that nobody knew, Plus some Detroiters did not want to switch Gov's during bankruptcy. Wishful thinking though

Since Paul is polling 6% in the current Washington Post/ABC poll to GOP darling Trump at 24%, I guess he needs to try something different.

Rand Paul is looking like he's ready for a photo op with the Nuge.

The last Republican nominee for the presidency was born and raised -at least for a few years - in Detroit. And one of the currently most popular Republican contenders was also born and raised in the city of Detroit.

Who knows- there may be any number of idiotic people 18-years-and-up within Detroit's boundaries who jump into the one-issue voter bloc bandwagon in the aftermath of the SCOTUS gay-marriage ruling. It may prove to be the "we've lost the South for a generation" event [[as the Voting Rights Act prompted in the 60s) for a segment of the black electorate.. I'm perversely intrigued to see how this will bear out, for the folks who still even bother to vote to begin with.. The overall turnout in 2014 wasn't all that great..
