When they were naming Canada, the citizens wanted a catchy three-letter name, like the USA, but were unable to agree on which three letters sounded best. To break the stalemate, they decided to randomly draw three letters out of a hat, and announce the new name of the country in front of a live audience of citizens and media reporters from around the world.

In order to insure public buy-in and authenticity, they chose a local citizen to announce the live drawing of the three letters:

    "C, eh? ----- N, eh? ----- D, eh?"

And that is how Canada got its name.

My country was in its infancy when invader and part-time thespian James Caan, also nephew to the wrathful Genghis Caan decided to claim Canuckistan for himself. The Caans were also A.A. members, not the one you think, but a benevolent association dedicated to the spread of A's across the world on account of their having two A's in a row in their last name. They therefore got rid of the Nuckistan particle and replaced with two A's to make it Canada and claim it for posterity. And that's the trooth.

Love it! I'll take this out in a big cup, thank you.

Habs is short for Habitant, which refers to French Canadian folks. An answer to Yankees or Wolverines in Michigan, I guess.

In the teens, there were 2 other pro hockey clubs in Montreal competing for attention: the Maroons; mostly Wasp, and the Shamrocks: self explanatory.
