Default Dividing and merging vacant lots in Detroit

A guy who owns the vacant lot next to my home in Detroit says he'll sell me half. Began looking online on how to make this happen without any luck. Any DY'ers have any insight?

It used to be that all land divisions in MI were regulated by the Land Division Act. It's very complicated.

However, I recall that many municipalities have a procedure whereby an owner[[s) may file a Lot Split Application [[or similarly described form) with the local assessor. That's where I would start. You'll probably need a survey by a registered professional engineer/surveyor.

    Good luck.

Agreed, start with the assessor's office. The current owner may have to split it into two parcels. After which he could sell one to you.
