    Default Detroit Development Map

I've been following this site and others like it for a while, but I just made an account a few days ago. I thought that it would be cool to see everything that's going on in Detroit on a map so we can easily keep tabs on everything and know exactly where it all is. I made a google map open for the public to find/edit so if anyone else thinks this is a good idea you can add locations to the map and help keep it updated. I added a couple markers to the map as an example where I included a link to a recent article [[could also link to threads on this site). So if anyone's interested you can access the map here:

    https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?m...Jg&usp=sharing

Layers I included for now are developments, rumors and events. Other layers such as historical places or Detroit "must-sees" could be added too.

    Great work ekleezy!

Very interesting how this provides a great visual to how most development is cluster around, or in close proximity to, Woodward Ave. Some might argue M-1's influence here?

This is great work and a very helpful map. I suspect many people will suggest additions of sites where construction or major renovation is underway. Here are a couple.

The former Detroit Water and Sewerage system is building a major new facilities on
West Jefferson close to Zug Island

Marathon Oil is putting up a large new office building in Detroit near the intersetion of
    Sanders and Dix.

Thanks for all the work that went into that map.

Agree: Thanks for the map. Pls. try to keep it up to date if you are able to do so.

Posts are posts and they get spread over scores or hundreds of threads, but a good [[annotated Google) map, like 'a picture, is worth a thousand posts' [[I took some liberty with that phrase... ).

Happy to see positive feedback! I only made about 10 of the markers on the map myself, other people have done the rest. I'm going to keep updating it as much as I can, but it will also stay public so anyone can update it. Thank you to everyone that has already or will help keep the map updated.

With a quick search I couldn't find anything about these online. If you can provide a source I'll make markers for them, or you could add them too. So far I like to have a source with recent info for each location.

This is the major new facility for the former Detroit Water and Sewerage system - it
will be operated by NEFCO. It is located next to the Detroit wastewater treatment
plant and is across the Rouge River from Zug Island.

As a construction materials supplier, one way for me to keep tabs on what's coming up in my county is to get on the local government website and look up "permits approved" and permitts applied for". It tells me who what when where and $ value. May be a helpful method for you.

Great idea Ekleezy and welcome to the forum. I have added about 20 sites most with pictures. There are a lot more to go.

Great map, have been thinking about doing something like this. Thanks for taking the initiative.

Here's something, somewhat related from the Freep today. 10 'Dinosaur Buildings' in Detroit in need of saviors.

I'm sure we've had a thread on this before, just unsure of where it is.

Good layer idea. I have since taken the liberty to add Developments Completed Layer [Green Markers]. Regarding your list below, I added the Old County Building to the Rumors layer yesterday. I think it is highly likely it will go forward, seems to much paid for speculation, but I haven't seen anything happen beyond removal of the playground that was on the SW corner lawn.

Nice to know, I wasn't aware of that.

Thanks for the contribution, everyone! I'm assuming this is pretty up to date right now, so I'll just bring it back every few months or whenever necessary for help updating it.

Cool stuff! I added the Outdoor Adventure Center, DuCharme Place, and Orleans Landing for developments, as well as the Crowne Plaza as completed. Will add any others that seem to be missing. What do we consider development vs. rumor? And how recent should the "completed" developments be?

It's almost been a year so I figured I'd bring this back. If anyone would like to help update it, that would be greatly appreciated. I think it's really cool to see all the developments and tumors on a map. It does a great job of showing how much is actually going on in Detroit these last couple years.

Rumors could be be changed to developments if they've been confirmed. Developments can be changed to completed if they've been completed. Lastly, if there are any new announcements those can be added as rumors or developments.

Thank you to everyone who helped last year and everyone who helps this time!

How can I get involved in this? I regularly add updates to the Detroit development thread on skyscraperpage.com and likely have a few things I can add.

Amazing - and Detroit still has little or no "revenue" to speak of.

Until Detroit finds a way of truly making money - for itself - as an entity,
the city continues to falter, hiccup, cough, sputter, and gasp.

I kayak, downtown Detroit. Drysuits, marine VHF radios, pogies, etc.
Perhaps you should look into being ON the water, it's peaceful.
I also enjoy a nice bicycle ride, downtown, exploring the city.
Maps, GPS, topography, geography, yeah it's a serious hobby.

Does your hobby involve Detroit - WorldsGreatest ......?
