Default Freighter sitting in Detroit River downtown

Anyone know what's up with the freighter just sitting in the river off Milliken State Park/Chene Park? It's been there about three or four days now.

There's a designated freighter anchorage spot there. He may be just waiting for room to open up at his destination.

You might want to try over at www.boatnerd.com. They list vessel passing's and news.

I believe it's going to contain the new "Floating Apartments" I keep hearing about.

They've procured a great spot for the Freedom Festival Fireworks.

They have a flat, and are waiting for road service.

And it's a "geared bulker" called the Puffin.

    What's a "geared bulker"?

    Ah! From Wikipedia's Bulk carrier.

It has equipment for loading and unloading its own cargo.

The best site for real time ship information is marinetraffic.com. Interesting that the Puffin sails under the Jamaican flag. Ja Mon!

Ha Ha Ha. Was going to post this but I could hear the groans as I was typing.

Would love to see a pic of the Puffin anchored in the river if anyone is down there. Thx.

    So here's a question..
When a freighter like this is anchored for an extended length of time, are the personnel aboard allowed to come ashore?
I'm assuming that both the US and Canadian Coast Guard is notified and aware that the ship will be stationary for awhile, so how close of an eye is kept on them?

I remember once I worked on a movie in thé east end of Montreal before the Harbor starts. I was painting an old ship Chandler boat that was a hundred yeras old but still hauling provisions to freighters entering or leaving port. I was surprised by the appearance of a US customs vehicles parked there. I asked and found out that even though they were miles away from US waters, the ship would be checked by an official posted here for the seaway transiters.

What vessel did you shot this photo from? She [[the freighter) is high in the water -- apparently nothing in her hold right now. Thanks for the pic!

My kayak. I paddled past it but there wasn't a sign of life on board.

If they shifted upriver just a little bit, they'd have great seats for the Grand Prix.

Perhaps there is an issue with the pilot on board. They may be waiting for a new pilot.

AWESOME! That's about as close as I'll ever get to a kayak [[being in one that is). I have seen them on the river from time to time. Great skill required to run one of those.
