You don't think that sometime in the next hundred years, sentiment will change and traffic will rise? A project like this isn't just built for the moment.
Sure, there might be a need for it in a couple of decades but there just wasn't enough demand to justify it. Meanwhile, it's one extremely costly infrastructure project. Traffic on the Ambassador has been declining for years. Surely Windsor could have come up with a few miles of Huron Park Road bypass to reduce the truck problem.
until it does Detroit's and Michigans citizens still have to pay the note and any losses it incurs, the unknown is how much and for how long.
LOL This is such an inept take. The bridge isn't a waste of money. It is a colossal importance to the Canadian economy, hence why they were more than willing to pay for it. Regardless of the current political moment which will obviously pass.
Says the person not paying for it. Michigan fought like hell not to pay for the little bit they are contributing on the U.S. side. Why exactly does Canada need this bridge so badly other than the inconvenience to trucks on Huron Park Road? The Canadian auto sector has been declining for several years before the Trump nonsense.

^ Well, bridges [all], have a life span.
The Ambassador Bridge built in 1930 will have to be dismantled at some point, so it can be argued that the Howe will then be very useful.
Of course, but why pay interest on billions of debt for something decades before it's needed?
The $4.6B Bridge at the Center of the U.S.-Canada Tariff War
WSJ Breaking Ground
The $4.6B Gordie Howe International Bridge, meant to symbolize stronger U.S.-Canada ties and boost North American trade, is nearly complete. But with Trump’s tariffs in play, Canada’s massive investment is now at risk—and the bridge’s symbolism may fall flat. Stretching from Detroit to Windsor, this new trade corridor was designed to connect two major auto hubs and strengthen supply chains—goals that are now in jeopardy.
WSJ explores why Canada invested so much money into the Gordie Howe bridge and what Trump’s tariffs mean for its future.
Chump is clearly caving in, his arrogant stance in taking on the world, never mind China, has damaged the US' ability to negotiate in the future, and find a way out of this conundrum.
China ain't gonna budge, they have the handle on energy, tech, and manufacturing, the next step is to handle international finance and promote their currency as a bridge to trade.
I hate to see this happen as much as you do, [[well maybe not as much) but at one point you have to realize the big mess the ignoramus in chief has created, in the corners of his manchild brain. It's better for you to own up to it sooner than later.
I have fallen for anything. I'm simply horrified and disgusted that anyone, let alone half of a country can support a person who doesn't support the rule of law in his own country, loves dictators, nominates incompetent and downright crazy people to run his cabinet, withholds money for medical research in his own country and support of poor people in 3rd world countries, uses religion as a political tool, speaks of women like they are sexual property, insults every one who doesn't agree with him, plays with people's economic lives like it's a game, etc. etc. etc.
Tramp is doing whatever, to make the systems work like they should.
Ill placed often, but needed in the mire of bureaucracy.
Just may wake some up.
Nil fore, or against the current state of affairs, it seems Tramp may shake some cobwebs out of some minds. Most of the bad will pass, but it will start some critical thinking.
As for the bridge, canuck has it nailed. 401 has zero vision as to the future.
If he doesn’t cave entirely on the tariffs on China, he’ll issue a waiver on his own MAGA crap. Since he imports all of it.Chump is clearly caving in, his arrogant stance in taking on the world, never mind China, has damaged the US' ability to negotiate in the future, and find a way out of this conundrum.

Time to relax then. That guy left office in Jan.
Very true.
In 2012 Canada produced 2.4 million cars.
By 2019 it was down to 1.9 million.
Today it's about 1.5 million.
The demand to ship all of our manufacturing jobs to Ontario has been on the wane for more than a decade now, and as a result, truck traffic on the bridge is also much less than it was 30 years ago. And if the unfair tariff situation gets balanced out, this trend will continue.
Truck crossings
2000 = 3.4 million
2024 = 2.3 million
China is in free-fall collapse. Citizens are burning the manufacturing plants after not getting paid for 1/2 a year etc. Even the government banks can't pay their employees. We are winning big time. The next 2-3 years are going to be amazing.

You link to a Socialist magazine? LOL It's no wonder you hold the wacky opinions you do.
"Starting a trade war" FACT CHECK FALSE
"Unable to follow through on"? FACT CHECK FALSE
"dealt a severe one to the United States" FACT CHECK FALSE.
These should have been your first clue you were reading lies.
President Trump's purpose in answering the trade wars [that these other countries started] wasn't to have permanent tariffs, but rather to get them to the negotiating table so that we can hammer out fair trade deals.
And sure enough, shortly after enacting the tariffs, more than 100 countries begged to sit down and negotiate.
THE PLAN WORKED !
Of course negotiating and drawing up trade agreements with 100+ countries takes time, so like any normal person, he paused those tariffs until the negotiations have taken place. Then for sure he'll re-instate them on the countries that didn't agree to a fair deal. [Let's say China dropping their 200% tariffs down to 10% or whatever].
Then your America-hating socialist rag tries to make fun of our president for taking bold steps to save our economy and nation. Like you'd expect.
