Default Chef leaves gar/parks and rec

Interesting development..in light of the previously announced and discussed staffing levels, this is not a surprise.

"...that the menus at both restaurants will remain much the same while the owners quickly regroup and move forward. "We’re not going to do massive, huge changes and revamp the whole thing," Carleton says. "We’re not going to lower the quality. Right now we are still in discussion because we had planned on working with her until 6 o’clock last night. We are talking with Kevin and figuring it out, but we want to stay in the same direction … it’s a good direction. We’re not even planning on shutting down for a short time."

"...Kate Williams wanted to stress to us that there's no acrimony, and the departure has more to do with where she wants to go than anything that's happened at Republic."

One large heaping serving of no acrimony, to go, please.

This is a horrific tragedy. Now I'm not so sure Detroit WILL be able to rebound.

Yea, I'm sure she's leaving to focus on a new project when the current project she's working on isn't even 100% complete. Definitely more to this than what is being reported.

Highly skilled chefs are well known as a peripatetic lot. And Chef Williams' previous departure from Rodin after a critically successful but tumultuously brief time was generally written off as a consequence of management dysfunction within that restaurant's ownership. Indeed, the same ownership has flamed out on multiple restaurant ventures in the past few years. Gotta say though, a second 30 day tenure after such an extended launch [[to critical acclaim, no less) can't help but raise eyebrows and red flags about the collaborative skills and high maintenance needs required by the star in the kitchen.

Republic's owners have made an enormous investment in the GAR Building. The building is of modest size but is an important and irreplaceable part of Detroit's architectural history. Our community is indebted. There's a good chance that the rebirth of that property will be a catalyst for additional development in that part of downtown. Everyone should hope that ownership can regroup quickly and achieve financial success with the two creative dining ventures they have launched.

I'm glad they used some of the Gar building's space for a quality restaurant. What a great looking structure. Kate will skate on to another team somewhere as Swingline says. Them chefs rrrrr'restless. If the menu is not toooooo complicated, and whoever is in charge can drive the place well, it can be a continued success. I personally favor places with a simple, but effective well proven chalkboard over the complex ones. I think that they tend to last longer if they keep it simple and introduce new stuff slowly and periodically.

Is this really a news story or something anyone cares about. The food industry is basically high turnover, alcoholism, and drugs with shitty bosses, shitty pay, no benefits etc... Its coveted on tv but the food lifestyle is one of the worst careers to get in too.

Well to answer your first question, yes it is newsworthy even if nobody fired a gun in anger.

Sometimes "regular people" have a few bucks and some taste.
