Default DPD Historical Museum finds Jimmy Hoffa

Well, sort of. When a cadre of retired officers were acquiring artifacts for the new Detroit Police Department Historical Museum, the print card below was discovered behind a filing cabinet at 1300 Beaubien. It dates from 1947. Couple of additional notes I can offer.....the officer who took Jimmy's prints was Odmar Anderson, who later became a lieutenant and retired in the early '60s. His two sons, both sight-impaired, ran the news stand in the lobby of 1300 for many years. On the flip side, the arresting officer was Lt. Albert Shapiro, who would go on to become the Chief of Detectives. The arrest was made on a warrant at 1300 Beaubien, so it was likely Jimmy was contacted and asked to come to HQ to surrender on the warrant that had been issued. Looks like he beat the case. Charge was extortion.

The museum is open to the public and free of charge Mon-Fri 9-4:30. It is located in the new public safety headquarters 1301 3rd street [[the old MGM casino). Just a note you do need to present photo id to enter the building.

Only some of us live in the City of Detroit proper. How were you treated
    exactly?

Back in the eighties, since I worked in Southfield at that time, I shopped
at Northland Mall occasionally. Then one time I found that my bag of
purchases had been ripped open and a couple of items removed from it.
Just having something stolen, believe it or not, didn't keep me from coming
back to Northland. What didn't sit well with me was the utter ho-hum
from the security staff when I went to their desk to report the theft.

From today's Free Press: Guns, surveillance gadgetry at Detroit Police Museum

Cool video at the link. It shows an "Iron Mike" that looks like some kind of suit of armor.

The museum just opened on May 12 which explains why there's so little about it on the web.

16154 Robson still stands...estimated sale value of $41,000. It was newish in 1947, being built in 1940. Wonder if the current residents know that Jimmy Hoffa once lived there, although they probably don't know who Jimmy Hoffa is.

Iron Mike is actually not metal at all it is early composite material. There is also a Congressional Medal of Honor on loan from a museum in Frankenmuth it belonged to a DPD officer. Not many place you can see a CMH in Michigan!!
