    Default Jumper at Greektown Casino?

Traffic in an awful snarl around Greektown Casino. Asked the owner of the local greasy spoon what happened and he said they had somebody jump from the Greektown Casino -- a 13-story fall. Sort of weird to see the traffic lined up for miles anyway. What grim scenario was behind this?

According to Channel 4 they are still investigating the cause of the jumping or pushing.

You know I could understand the reasoning behind that. It is a very long walk from the casino floor to your car and it is a very long from from the parking structure to your home and in that time you think over and over how you wished you would walked away when you are up ahead. I know the feeling but luckly for me, I never jumped.

Should have taken the 13th floor elevator. It's a softer landing.

    If they jumped: Selfish bastard

If they were pushed: Poor sucker.

Whoever he or she was I hope that I never have to experience the pain that would make a person do that to them self. May they rest in peace.

That is one reason that almost if not all Minnesota casinos no longer have windows in the rooms that you can open. I like some fresh air in the room, especially in the winter, and hate not being able to open a window. But for those that are so inclined to make a window an exit, I guess I understand the thinking of the hotels. As much money as I have "donated" at the casinos, I still can't understand anyone taking that leap. It is just TOO final.

We don't know why the person had jumped or was pushed. It might not be because he or she lost their' fortune. A man had jumped earlier this year in the same area

I think we'll never know, because he probably did lose all his money and jump, and that's why that jumper and the jumper six months ago will melt into yesterday's news and be forgotten. Keep lining up, people! Valet parking will return just as soon as the cops clear the scene.

Michigan's been in recession since 2001. The meltdown of the big three and thier suppliers started then. Which do you think really caused the all the foreclosures? A few people with a gambling problem, or the disintegration of Michigan's primary employers.

The only controlled figure for effect of a casino on the area was one reported by WDET and/or the Freep after the Windsor casino had been open for a couple years...

...they said the number of Gambler's Anonymous chapters went from 4 to 200 after only the first year of operation.

I've never been able to confirm this, probably accounted by the primary source's public anonymity and all, but nobody argues it.

After the three opened on this side of the river, I have never seen any sort of follow-up.

Sure would be curious to chart THAT trend...

A few people with a gambling problem!!! Sounds like you don't get out much. Go to any one of the casinos. Go into the parking structure and check out the cars. The plates will be 99% Michigan plates.

True, Michigan has been in a recession but it is a fact that gambling has accelerated things like losing savings and foreclosures.

In a Countrywide survey of reasons for foreclosure. Loss of income was #1 with 58% of the people reporting that. Gambling doesn't even show up on the list.

Sure losing a house due to gambling happens. But nowhere near as often as due to loss of job or medical issues.

More delusional conspiracy thinking. What incentive would a mortgage companies survey have in keeping Casinos open.

Let me take you out of your box for a moment. Using your examples, let's say someone lost their job because they spent every second at the casino instead of reporting to work or medical issues like stress, alcoholism, reflux occured because said gambler was not taking care of themselves because again they were in the casinos for hours and hours and days and days.

Now, you can go back to your box.

countrywide was a ripoff mortgage company. you going to believe anything they say. anyone could payoff that fly by night operation to make up anything. they are the number one cause for foreclosures and predetory lending. try a survey by someone else

I haven't seen any stats out of you that refute my stats. Just a mindless view from your little box telling me to step out of mine.
