Time for soccer stories to start perking up... Wonder if this one has legs?

    http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/columnists/john-niyo/2015/05/12/niyo-clubs-make-pitch-pro-soccer-detroit/27217321/

"Duggan, brother of Detroit mayor Mike Duggan, has been touting his plans for a pro soccer team here for nearly two decades, ever since he founded the Mid-Michigan Bucks in Saginaw in 1995. But he says the pieces finally are falling into place, with plans to build a 10,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in the city gaining traction — the Midtown area is one possibility — and the financial backing supposedly ready and waiting."

And yes, I believe somewhere West of Cass Park would fit in the concept of a sports and entertainment district.

Ilitch plans housing there, but I doubt much will happen unless the population of Midtown and Brush Park literally exploded.

Brush Park will get the new housing. What will happen to the area around say Temple and 3rd?

DCFC, aka Le Rouge, was the Metro Times cover story last week, with a story written last year and reprinted from The Howler...

There continues to be a real divide in Detroit area soccer.

Interesting mention of riverfront land for a soccer stadium. Where? Why?

I thought a deal was already in the works to move to Hamtramck's Keyworth Stadium. It's a good neighborhood but I worry if there's enough parking nearby should the team draw enough to fill both sides of the stadium.
It also would not be as connected to major mass transit [[m1 rail or the proposed rapid bus lines) than say somewhere near the new hockey district.

I see this as a low-cost, small ball solution.

I have a hard time seeing a team there for 10 years.

OR Detroit FC stays there 10 years while another team plays in Midtown or on the riverfront.

Hamtramck's Keyworth Stadium could have plenty of parking. There is nearby unused factory and parking that could be used. Requires money though.
