    16. EXHIBIT: Bent, Cast, and Forged: The Jewelry of Harry Bertoia, Cranbrook Museum of Art, March 14-November 29, 2015. In commemoration of the centennial of the artist’s birth, Bent, Cast, and Forged: The Jewelry of Harry Bertoia is the first museum exhibition devoted to Harry Bertoia’s designs for jewelry. The former Cranbrook Academy of Art student and metalsmithing instructor has received international acclaim for his metal furniture and sculpture, but his exploration of the medium originated in jewelry design while still a high school student in Detroit.

    18. Past Meets Future: The Saarinens and the Fenton Community Center, Saturday, March 14, 2015, 1pm. Join DOCOMOMO for an afternoon of presentations, featuring Brian Conway, State Historic Preservation Officer, who will discuss the Community Center in the context of Eliel Saarinen’s career, and exhibits prepared by Lindhout & Associates, that display the complexities of adding to the historic building. A preview tour of the newly expanded facilities and grounds will be led by Vince Paris, Director of FCCC. The program takes place onsite at 150 S. Leroy, Fenton. Suggested donation: $12, members $10, students $5; refreshments served.

Mark Rosenthal, curator of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Detroit, explores the year that the artists spent in Detroit, from April 1932 to March 1933, a turning point in the evolution of the work of both artists. This lecture takes place in the Detroit Film Theatre Auditorium. Free with museum admission.
