Default Detroit City FC sells out of 2015 season tickets

Another Downtown Detroit phenomenon continues to soar. They also raised prices and still sold out. Sales started on Black Friday.

"The historic demand for season tickets not only shows the passion for soccer in Detroit but the entrenched love that has grown for this club in just four years,” team co-owner Alex Wright said in a statement.

Wright told Crain’s in December that the club expected to cap season ticket sales because of the growing popularity. A cap ensures single-game tickets are available for walk-up sales.

“We do this internal math on how many season tickets we can move without worrying about turning people away,” he said.

Le Rouge, as the club is nicknamed, averaged 2,878 fans per game last season at Cass Tech, including a season-high 3,398 on July 11 against the Fort Pitt Regiment.

Some games last season saw more than 2,000 walk-up sales, Wright said."

"The season runs May-June. Games in 2015 will be live-streamed online.

DCFC’s league, the NPSL, is a fourth-tier amateur league within the Chicago-based United States Soccer Federation’s organizational pyramid, which is topped by Major League Soccer and its 19 professional teams.

The federation is the U.S. soccer system’s governing body for both amateur and pro soccer. Unlike European soccer, U.S. teams do not jump up or down levels based on winning."

Great news. Hopefully they can build a new stadium and keep the team in the city. I don't want them moving to Hamtramck. What's the cost of building a 5,000-10,000 seat soccer stadium? Maybe they could upgrade the current one at Cass Tech and the city and school can pitch in.

There is no doubt that soccer in America is a growing sport and it has excellent demographics to fuel a prosperous bright future. It would only be to Detroits advantage to take part in this fact.
