    Default Histories of Detroit Firehouses

Greetings. I am a fire service historian [[in NC), who researched and photographed numerous historic Detroit firehouses in 2010. This month I have revisited and expanded my research, and posted everything at http://www.legeros.com/history/detroit

Looks like DFD [[as a career fire department) had 107 different engine and ladder houses over the decades and centuries. [[And watch for maps of these locations from FDmaps.com, which is coming soon. That's another NC-based site.)

My primary sources are DFD historian records, Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, DFD history books, Detroit Public Library photos, and this Discuss Detroit thread started in 2006: http://www.atdetroit.net/forum/messa...tml?1173935391

Anyone with an interest in this subject is welcome to post edits or additional information about these buildings. Or drop me a private message. [[I'm just a long-distance researcher, so bear with my errors!) Hope you enjoy!

There are two humongous threads on this subject already. Search the site for "Firehouses". In 2009, I posted pictures of all of the then-existing firehouses, including those that were out of service at that time. Sadly, since then many more have been shuttered [[and some vandalized).

Awesome, thank you. I had found the 2009 thread, but not the more recent one. I confess, ahem, to some difficulty finding the search feature of these forums. Think I've got it now!

    The second newer thread: http://www.detroityes.com/mb/showthr...?93-Firehouses

The one contribution to the thread I will give. Designed by Chittenden & Kotting. Engine #35 Detroit Fire Department 8229 Beaubien built in 1914 North End Detroit, MI.

There is a 1914 article in the Detroit Free Press that features this firehouse but you are on your own to find it.
