Since we are on a 'roll' over the new buildings in the project model [[as shown in the posted image), I can also see a new parking deck east of the Episcopal Church. [[one can see the Ilitch Holding buildings/proposed buildings as they are a lighter hue than non-Ilitch buildings).

As was discussed a number of times in this thread, it looks like the 'grand plan' is to put up residential housing along Woodward + the new building with 'Wrigley-style' bleacher seats and put up a parking deck to replace the surface parking which will cease to exist.

That building seems to be specifically positioned to be able to look directly into the ballpark, which is kind of a no brainer and long overdue. There also looks to be another building on that block fronting GCP, which is good to see, although the frontage along Madison still looks to be empty.

Yes, the Google maps shows a building at the corner of Madison / John R. Don't know what the building is.

BTW, I agree that all of these [[3, if I count right) buildings could have/should have been built independent of the arena project.

Anyone want to bet that this implosion will "disrupt" the structural integrity of the Eddystone?

I also like the fact they included the district Detroit in the preview center. I've heard Wilson interviewed a few times and he always mentions the 45 blocks of downtown Detroit, so it doesn't look like this "District" idea was just smoke and mirrors to build an arena.
Hehehe..... you haven't been around very long, have you??

Maybe it will be delayed until there's a good strong wind coming up from the south!

I don't know what to make of it...

I'd suspect there will [[should be) a [[public) parking garage at Henry and Clifford, and one at Clifford and Montcalm [[Where Olympia has $20 baseball game parking), etc. I see none of that in the image.

I was in town this weekend, and really looked at the area and have a bunch of questions, especially the perimeter, e.g. those house on Clifford south of Temple. Or the Veterans build at Park and Temple or the veterans parking lot on Woodward/Temple [[NW corner), etc. etc.

Streetscaping for those two medians between Clifford and Cass and streetscaping around the entire project.

Streetscaping isn't that expensive but can make an area look 100% better.

I watched, at least every couple weeks near the end, the building of Nationals Park in D.C.

I was able to watch the development pattern around the stadium as the stadium was being built.

What I observed is how SLOWLY other development occurred until the stadium was nearly finished.

Building a large sports facility, a little like doing M-1, is very disruptive to the area. The area might look more like a bombed out area for say 20 - 24 months than a new shiny building in a revitalizing area.

Streetscaping, etc. might be 24 months off even though the exterior might be done say in 18 [[or whatever).

I'm guessing the residential component won't begin until the exterior is completely done and much of the interior.

My guess: Spring - Summer 2017 will be when we see constructions all over for residential buildings, maybe a hotel, etc. [[e.g., if I were a hotelier, I'd try to open that new hotel in time for the 2017 Lions' season and have it open for the 2017 MLB playoffs and hockey season).

John Oliver is awesome. He's spot-on almost 100% of the time, and simultaneously hilarious.

Agreed! Did you happen to read Ilitch's rebuttal?

I went to Cincinnati this past weekend to take in a Reds game with some friends. We didn't know but they have a Reds Museum and Hall of Fame right next door to Great American Ballpark. It was just $10 to get in and it's a two-story museum in a three-story building, built recently. There are some awesome relics in there from the team's history and includes interactive displays and even other baseball memorabilia.

Has Ilitch put this into the plan for the new arena district? I've not heard anything about that possibility. It seems like an obvious choice for him to do, a museum and a Red Wings hall of fame right in a building next door or connecting to the arena.

Here's the street view of what the museum looks like on the outside.

If Ilitch adds this idea to his plan.. I hope it has a better architect

I like what they did at Comerica with the decade-by-decade displays in the corridors. I think there will be plenty of space in the new arena for something similar, maybe including a tribute to the previous arenas. I would prefer something free like this that every visitor to the park sees rather than a separate museum.

While this thread [[and subject matter) has largely wilted in the summer heat [[I guess), the subject matter is alive and brewing [[pun intended) in Milwaukee.

Seems Milwaukee has the Brew Crew and Bucks and don't want to risk losing the Bucks...

So Scott Walker [[R-WI) supported a plan with the cost for a new arena to be shared by the ownership and public.

And there is a paragraph indicating that this isn't Scott Walker's first rodeo with public financing for sports teams. I get to make my reference to the 'Brew Crew" here - it was for their baseball stadium that Walker supported.

Or as some would say, "same old, same old..." Detroit and now Milwaukee... or to be more accurate: MIL [[baseball stadium), DET [[baseball stadium), DET [[football stadium), and now MIL [[basketball arena).

I might add parenthetically, that Oakland and San Diego ARE probably going to lose their NFL teams probably for 2016 because of unresolved stadium issues.

Call it 'extortion' or 'vulture capitalism' or simply owners looking out for their financial best interests but it is what it is... Owners can move factories, stores, headquarters, sports teams or anything else that they own...
