Default Does Detroit have an active cold case unit?

I am watching cold case on TV and was curious if Detroit has a cold case unit.

They had one. I think it was disbanded in early 2013 to put more officers on the street

A growing and interesting movement dubbed 'cyber-sleuthing' is making strides in that direction. Ordinary civilians sitting at home prowling the internet and crime databases in search of criminals of unsolved crimes and missing persons can make up for the thousands of hours of police work that is simply impossible with current budgets.

Most prominent among these for missing persons is the Doe Network [as in John Doe], now in its 13th year. Missing person identification is also often crucial in criminal pursuit.

It would be nice to see a similar project set up exclusively for crowd-sourcing Detroit cold cases.

Detroit cold cases interest me. A dear friend, was murdered in his home in West Village. The door was left open and 7 day adventists saw his body laying near it. Shot in the head. They called 911, he lingered for several days, then died. Nothing apparently stolen, his wallet with 300 dollars retreived.

Not internet savy but trainable. Too many stories like that.

Our friend was career navy, retired. No effort to solve what went down.

Sorry for your loss. Detroit's homicide clearance rate is 33% at best.

^^^ Indeed there are many, MANY unsolved murders in the city and across the state of Michigan. There are some billboards that show those love one lost, killers not found. Part of this has been due to intimidation some feel in reporting incidence seen or known.

Hopefully this will change as people learn that the no 'snitchin' only endorses more crime and violence. Often back upon those already afraid.

It won't change because the risk is not worth the reward. No one wants to be involved in a crime story, let alone being attacked or killed themselves for speaking up, that's why tip lines are major to DPD. And DPD does not have the best reputation with the citizens of Detroit, so I don't think they have faith in them protecting their lives from people they snitched on.
