    Default Duggan Score board

Curious what people think of his early tenure as Mayor.

When he was running I was supposed to to do an at home in our community. Got canceled. Same week that he stepped away from running. Had everything planned out but pretty happy I had not bought the food yet. As everyone knows he ran on a write in and won.

We in a small way threw major support his way but I was a bit surprised when other community leaders who I invited declined. They didn't like his affliation with Wayne County etc. Happily they most all have done an about face.

    Comments welcome.

And also bear in mind that, up to this point, Orr with his EM powers helped Duggan to achieve what he wanted easily...

One of the things that will help Mr. Duggan quite a bit is that he is used to an environment where he has considerable, but not absolute, authority, and has to collaborate to get things done. Mr. Orr's tenure was certainly a catalyst but I think this is an essential part of how Mr. Duggan operates normally. Another very considerable help, not due to any part of Mr. Duggan's character or experience but nonetheless very important, is that he appears to be blessed with a City Council made up largely of thoughtful grown-ups. This has not always been the case in the recent past.

It speaks volumes that he is emceeing Snyder's inauguration. Can you imagine any other recent Detroit mayor doing that? He seems to understand that he needs Snyder to push for Detroit in Lansing.

Witness the cooperation between the major parties we all crave. This is what gets things done. A willingness to discuss and compromise. So do not shoot him because he's talking to the devil, but celebrate that he can get the devil to do things needed for Detroiters.

Duggan will do Detroit a lot of good.
Hopefully his efforts do not get blocked
by swarms of ignorant yelling idiots .

Fortunately Duggan built a lot of bridges between the Mayors office and City Council, while both were pretty much powerless under the Receivership. Now that they all have most of their power back, hopefully the working relationship will continue....

It's not fair to measure yet. Duggan has only had full authority for a short time. That started Sept. 25. Give him a year.

I'm very encouraged by all that has transpired to date.

Sure, but unlike the yelling populist fools that have been on council, Duggan used the EM time to get stuff done -- rather than just crying. There's a lesson there.

Can you imagine any other person doing it, you ask?

Ex Mayor Bing did it at the first inauguration. How quickly we forget.

But, seriously, why would you not want the state's support in any way possible?
