WASHINGTON — President Obama will ignore angry protests from Republicans and announce as soon as next week a broad overhaul of the nation’s immigration enforcement system that will protect up to five million unauthorized immigrants from the threat of deportation and provide many of them with work permits, according to administration officials who have direct knowledge of the plan.

Asserting his authority as president to enforce the nation’s laws with discretion, Mr. Obama intends to order changes that will significantly refocus the activities of the government’s 12,000 immigration agents. One key piece of the order, officials said, will allow many parents of children who are American citizens or legal residents to obtain legal work documents and no longer worry about being discovered, separated from their families and sent away.

That part of Mr. Obama’s plan alone could affect as many as 3.3 million people who have been living in the United States illegally for at least five years, according to an analysis by the Migration Policy Institute...

These folks are already here and not going back to their original countries any time soon. That part won't change. We might as well make them legit and maybe get some tax revenue from them.

Illegal aliens are a net drag on US worker employment rates, US wage rates and social service programs. Yesterday, a study was released claiming that 42% of new Medicaid payments go to legal aliens. "A key part of the Affordable Care Act is Medicaid expansion for those with low incomes. A new analysis of government data by the Center for Immigration Studies shows that immigrants and their U.S.-born children [[under age 18) have been one of the primary beneficiaries of Medicaid growth. The data show that immigrants and their children accounted for 42 percent of the growth in Medicaid enrollment from 2011 to 2013. It seems almost certain that immigrants and their children will continue to benefit disproportionately from Obamacare as they remain much more likely than natives to be uninsured or poor. The available evidence indicates that the Medicaid growth associated with immigrants is largely among those legally in the country". Just wait until President Obama passes his unconstitutional executive legislation legalizing illegal aliens. They presently can't access Medicaid. As soon as they can, over half of new Medicaid recipients will be non-citizens.

The easiest way to get illegal aliens to go home would be to imprison and heavily fine their cheating employers who profit from cheap foreign labor. When it begins to make more sense to hire US citizens, employers will do so and some illegal aliens will find the door by themselves. Walls don't work as long as traitors keep gates open. China learned this long ago.

Yep, excellent points. And fining should be bipartisan as a percentage of both dems and repubs want low pay workers withstanding what their lips are moving to say!
