    Default Where to Eat tomorrow?

Wife & I are going on a "date" tomorrow night downtown. Looking for recommendations for places that have good food. Price or genre of food is not as important.

    Thanks in advance!

Traffic Jam and Snug [[or simply known as TJ's) at Second and Canfield is a favorite of my wife and I. Couple of blocks off the Wayne State campus. Not really downtown I guess.

Also on our list is Bucharest [[near Comerica Park) for Shwarma's and if you are in the mood for Mexican, Xochimilco's has made my mouth water for nearly 3 decades now.

I guess none of those are technically downtown.

Err..the Sweetwater Tavern is pretty nice. As is Foran's on Woodward near the river.

I'm not crazy about TJs. There's plenty of good food downtown. Italian [[Angelina Bistro), Cuban [[Vicente's), ribs [[Sweetwater) ...

Or most ANY of the Greektown Restaurants come to think of it...

Geez...guess the missus and I will be dining out tonight. These postings always do this to me...

If price is not too important and you like dramatic vistas, Coach Insignia atop the RenCen or Joe Muer's [try to reserve a river window seating] also in RenCen will be enjoyable.

For Greektown area Santorini [Greek Greek] and Fishbones have nice ambience and good food.

I work in the RenCen and have never been to coach but I have not heard anything good about the food, only the view.

I will second the Joe Muer seafood recommendation. It's pricey but the food is excellent. I have read the reviews for Wright and company and the place generally gets pretty good reviews. Ottava Via in corktown also gets good reviews online if you like Italian. Roast in the Book Cadillac is VERY GOOD but expensive. The London Chop House was also very good but extremely expensive. I believe the Selden Standard up in midtown is now open as well.

I should have said that seafood is the only food I don't eat

I have been to Roast and it was very good. I will go back again however they have no reservations available tomorrow.

    Thanks again for the replies

The most amazing thing I ever ate in my life was the filet mignon at Prizm [[I think it was called something different when I went there).

The fairly recently opened Wright & Co gets pretty good reviews and would be a good spot for a date. Greek is always a good option [[Santorini, Pegasus, New Parthenon). If you want to go more high-end, Coach Insignia is good and and awesome view [[but quite expensive). Top of teh Pontch is another new [[re-opened) restaurant with a good view and solid food. A bit cheaper than Coach. Another fun [[but expensive) option is Texas De Brazil, if you like meat. Vicente's for a bit more casual, but still good for a date.

There are a few good spots in Corktown/Midtown as well [[e.g., Ottava Via, St. Cece's, or La Feria).

Does Vicente's still have salsa dance class after dinner? Would be fun, if they do. The Chop House has music in the dining room, sometimes very good. Also try the Whitney "ghost" bar on the 3rd floor. Is there still ping-pong game room on Woodward? Would be fun after dinner. Try Groupons for some of this entertainment stuff.

Antietam over by Eastern Market if you want something a little different and funky. Good cocktails, very good food.

I think Antietam has closed, unfortunately. Has anyone eaten there recently [[last few weeks?)

I notice Top Of The Pontch in the Crown Plaza Pontchartrain is open. I haven't been there and don't know anyone who has but I was there in back in the day and the vistas are sensational.

I believe they do it every Saturday night still. They were doing it last time I was there. Drive [[the ping pong place) has moved into the Penobscot building, and just had their re-opening fairly recently. The new space is pretty nice.

How about Roma Cafe in Eastern Market? Took my girlfriend there last summer on a whim. It was very small and intimate. She really dug it.

Capital idea! Then maybe a shopping trip to the Family Dollar, and end the evening with drinks @ the Silent Woman or The Booby Trap. Now there's a Detroit experience she soon won't forget.
