Perfect example of reality and armchair QB throughout the Internet.

Despite having a plot of hypothetically sizable piece of land, time, and $10k to start, no ground-breaking ideas have resulted. So much for all the complainers, whiners, and big-mouth trolls talking smack all day long on the World Wide Web.

Evidently, the Reddit community wasn't able to offer more than community garden and taco truck. And the DetroitYes community, on a more local level, has nothing at all to help the cause of making a positive difference. Sad indeed.

Take the plot of land, erect a large tent filled with plastic chairs, use the $10,000 to run a national ad campaign to fill the seats at $500 a head on making millions investing in Detroit real estate useing other people's money.

You could not even professionally build out a Taco truck for $10,000 which granted is as whacked out of an idea as dissing a community for non response towards a non realistic unabtainable guidelines for creating growth and jobs.

Completely agree with you on all counts, Richard. In summary, what you said is equivalent to the fact that it takes money [[usually way more than initially thought) to accomplish all kinds of things that people tend to bitch about time and time again.

For example; in order for Detroit to have the revival that we have seen in Downtown over the past 3 years, who specifically could have done what Dan Gilbert did? The pool of billionaires aren't that big, so blaming the low-income residents or even the middle-class residents doesn't hold water.

Heck, as you so eloquently articulated, even a clean plot of land, time to spare, and $10k to spend on startup cost, aren't even close to being sufficient to create jobs and positive social impact in any Detroit neighborhood.

    Thank you, Richard, for sharing.

I understand what your intent was, which portrays the mayors $10,000 incentive to small business owners to stimulate the micro economy and add jobs.

The way you posted the question and the intent of the program are the difference between night and day.

If you are confused on how a minute amount affects the city as a whole, which would be perfectly understandable to a non small business owner, just simply ask.

As for what is now a two part thread,it takes money from all levels of society to build a city and not just billionaires, the city is still in the process of setting the stage and has already cleared some major hurdles in a short amount of time,a lot of people have come to the plate and sometimes it is okay to take a step back and reflect on the positive actions and accomplishments that have taken place so as not to become "burnt out" .
