Thread: Sparty in Troy

    Default Sparty in Troy

The MSU Basketball team opted to stay in Troy at the Somerset Inn. Origanally slated to stay in a New Center property. I see Martha, Monica and Barbara Rose donning their UConn gear now...

Just wondering where the other three final four teams stayed?

If their stated purpose was to keep the student athletes away from hoopla and distractions, fine.

If all the Detroit hotels were booked, fine.

But if they did it to save money or because of any other preconception of Detroit, that is kind of tacky.

Ugh. Don't even bother trying to make an issue out of this. Every decision the coaches and athletic directors make at this level is carefully thought out with one goal in mind. If they decided the Somerset Inn was the best location for their players to stay, its NOBODY'S place to second-guess them.

And if you're one of those ultra-PC college-age types who can't help but make an issue out of every little thing, keep in mind that the Spartans have a chance to bring a National Championship home to the state of Michigan. Cut them a little slack.

Kind of fitting, seeing as their rally took place at Somerset Mall.

    The rally was at Somerset?

    yeah, tacky.

Artds, I thought my post was pretty forgiving. Like I said, there are plenty of good reasons to isolate the team.

see how that kid from North Carolina was on the news for winning $250 in one of the casinos?

maybe it's just to keep the team away from distractions.

Don't you think the NCAA books the rooms in advance? I'm sure neither Michigan State nor Tom Izzo had anything to do with booking their hotel rooms.

Could you imagin trying to book hotel rooms for 60 people a week in advance of the Final Four? The only place they could have found that many rooms all together would have been East Lansing.

And as far as staying in New Center, isn't the only hotel up there the St. Regis? With it's tax leins, construction liens, supplier liens and horrid front desk? Of course there's always the Viking or St Aubin and I hear Yorba has vacancies.

The NCAA does indeed block those rooms in advance for the Regional winner, even if it would have been Louisville. And yes, it was the St. Regis. And as far as your assessment of the tax situation, the liens and the front desk, I could not agree more.

And cut the Yorba some slack. I don't think they would have any problem taking 60 reservations.

UConn was at Book Cadillac...had huge line of fans cheering them on as the loaded their bus. Also saw Villanova coach Jay Wright at the Book...but not sure if the team was staying there.
