Detroit - UN headquarters on Belle Isle

I was reading about the UN building, and the article mentioned that Detroit came forward first with a proposal to build on Belle Isle:

I know it would never have happened but it is a great what-if, just like all the failed Olympic bids.

I read somewhere before that the UN almost ended up in Philadelphia. So I don't think it was too far-fetched for Detroit to have been chosen...

It started in San Francisco. It would be a hoot indeed if it'd been located in Detroit.

I bet probably every burg of any size put in a bid.

Reminds me of Coleman's casino proposals or that guy who wanted to turn Belle Isle into its own nation. Hey maybe we can get him to build that nation off of Mack and get a huge dead spot filled?

Then we would have all of the UN employees with diplomatic imunity scoffing at the laws just as Detroit residents do.

If Detroit gets the U.N. World Headquarters, Detroit's population would be s super ethnic melting pot for immigrants looking for asylum.

Why does it have to be New York City?

Wife and I visited the U.N. building in NYC several years ago. Was very impressed with all the hot air rushing out.
