    Default Orr Cans Detroit CDCs

    Way to screw local control, Republicans! And please, spare me that "but Orr is a Democrat" BS. Dude is a huge DB and does the bidding of his Republican handlers without thinking twice. As long as that check clears/ed, no BFD.

    Local control was reestablished weeks ago. If the mayor and city Council want them returned, all they need to do is sign a piece of paper. If they do not, it is because they don't really want it. And it is a whole lot easier to blame the outgoing guy, than to take responsibility for doing it yourself.

    Community District Council. Can you explain what is going on Baseline, or are you just going to politically rant?

    While day to day control has been given back to the mayor and city council, Orr is still the emergency manager until the bankruptcy is finalized. He still has the capability to overrule the mayor and city council. This was illustrated in court yesterday. Orr was asked about city councils approval of the transfer of the Joe site to FGIC as part of the settlement. He stated that the city council will probably approve the deal. However, If they didn't, he still had the ability to overrule them and put the deal in place.

    After the bankruptcy is finalized the State oversight board could still overrule things done by the Mayor and City Council.

    Thanks. I trust this only applies to things that cost money -- the thing that mayors and councils have been unable to manage in the past, right?

    Yes, it's only supposed to be about money. Unfortunately, most legislation involves money of some sort or another. It costs money to improve services. It cost money to add extra civil and criminal law enforcement. It costs money to tear down houses. It takes monetary incentives to get developments off the ground ........

    Lesson to mayors and city councils... exercise your financial power wisely, or you'll lose your power to the state.

    Lesson to voters... exercise your vote wisely and do not elect people on the basis of their ability to deliver goodies to you, or you'll lose your power to the state.

    Lesson to state... change the laws to limit the power of cities to put today's expenses on tomorrow's taxpayers, or you'll have to assume power in cities that you really don't want.

    I really can't wait for the day your computer catches fire so we're spared the narcissistic and irrelevant lectures from your keyboard. Orr did this as a "screw you" as part of his final actions as full EM. There is no reason to get rid of CDCs; unless you feel they're a thorn in your "development" side. And, I'm sure it's a lot hard to re-establish something in the future, when it shouldn't have ben eliminated in the first place. CDCs are very important and there was NO reason to get rid of them -- period!

    Streamline towards a dictator and things get done .
    Having endless meetings and tabling items ad nauseum gets little accomplished.

    Each community advisory council has 7 members as follows:

    1. 5 citizens elected from that district;
    2. 1 youth member from that district, chosen by the city councilperson;
    3. 1 member who represents the concerns of seniors in that district.

    So one person can represent all the youth interests? Is this for the male or female interests because we know this person cant do both if a male. Same for the Seniors. Repeat for the Black, Brown and White interests as they all deserve a voice at the table and we all know that one can not represent the others...

    This whole exercise of having a CDC sounds like instituting some class based socialism with groups being represented in place of individuals. This is why the plan is for special groups to be represented.

    People should think about what is fair and best for everyone, not some artificial grouping. The CDC was built on garbage.

    So lots of people at a meeting is good ; or bad ?
    A mass of representatives at the table, or a select few who make decisions quickly and act quicker ?
    7 members in 7 districts is already about 50 people - sounds like a quagmire of indecisiveness
    The Councils/Districts idea appeared to be doomed from the start.................
    A State board already had the ability to squash anything dreamed up in council meetings

    They became obsolete as soon as city council changed to districts,if you have a problem call or email your representative that's their job.Its not like before.
