Has anyone been to a Buscemi's before? Sounds like an upscale place.

    It's not.

It's a neighborhood party store that sells bootleg Buddy's Pizza...

Buscemi's coming to Downtown or Midtown is about as exciting as 7-11 doing so. Actually less, since they're less useful than 7-11.

Talk about Johnny come Lately ... Yawn.

"If you took a bite of every pizza in the world, number one would be Bushemi's!"

That was a jingle on the Bozo show. Dad got hounded by his kids to get the Bushemi's Pizza. He would stare at us with a WTF look. Being on the far west side he knew that it was an all day trip to get that stuff cuz it was an eastside thing.

My first job was at the first Buscemi's, on Gratiot. To me, it was "upscale". Their pizza was OK, but the Torpedo Sandwiches were heaven. Definitely an east side thing, in the 1960s.

You think Buscemi's is upscale? Well that explains you trying to compare Stafford to Elway and Montana.

It's definitely not an upscale store...but their sub sandwiches are great! The pizza is ok, but not great. I used to stop for a sub when I needed a quick meal.

Tony Buscemi owns a lot of convenient stores throughout Macomb County. He is know as the 'Italian 7-11' He's business is very successful and having a first convenient store in Gilberttown Detroit will promote his business empire.

But it won't be the first. There's already a 7-11 open at Cadillac Sq and Randolph.

More workers, more taxes paid, more options for the office workers... it's all good to me. What the pizza tastes like is minor. Somebody likes it because they've got 44 suburban stores, and one more business from the 'burbs downtown is another vote for Detroit.

What I find more exciting is the loft development in the other link posted. I used to work in the New Center and walk down Second at lunchtime. Then when I worked in the Cultural Center, I walked up Second at lunchtime. Many times I walked by those buildings and thought they would make nice lofts.

Frank Jonna, CEO of Southfield-based Jonna Cos., developer of the nearby 54-unit Lofts at New Amsterdam in 2008 and 44-unit Graphics Arts Lofts in 2006, said it was "tough sledding" when those properties were developed, but recent demand has been high and he expects it to continue.

"It was certainly a struggle in the early days because that area never really had anybody living in it," he said. "But [[the developers) will be fine" with their project.

No to mention that competition will make the current stores up their game and provide better services and cleaner environments.

Buscemis is kind of a signpost that you've entered Macomb County, or at least the Eastside of the metro area.. Eye-talian American party store [[unless the Chaldeans or Albanians now own it).

Buscemis is good for cheap pizza. It seems like a nicer version of a typical corner liquor store, but it's still pretty much a liquor store.

Difference is that Buscemi's is kinda known for being not-terrible. If I see a Buscemi's across the street from Todd's Liquor Store, which looks like it hasn't had any maintenance done in decades, Buscemi's every day. They have an established brand, a not-shady party store that has decent-to-good food and a "good" beer/liquor selection. It's the difference between Marcus Market and University Liquor in Midtown. Tell me which one you'd rather go to.
