Default New 1940s Detroit Zoo Color Home Movies

I recently discovered 16mm color home movies of the Detroit Zoo in the mid-1940s taken by my grandfather. Nice shots of all of the exhibits, the old train, etc., edited into sections. Had them transferred and uploaded to YouTube today - in three parts due to the YouTube 10-minute limit. Hope you enjoy this previously unseen footage!

Great shots with homemade special effects titles. Very impressive! I can tell that your grandfather loved to shoot movies.
If you don't know the exact year of the film, email me and I'll tell you how to find out.

    LOL A raccoon exhibit?

This guy sure knew how to film. I didn't even know you could get color film for a home camera back then and actually able to do special effects.

terrific effects and title cards. All it needs now is some Robert Farnon music in the background.
