Default Calling U-M folk [[Old Post Office pieces)

Back in aught-5, DY user Carptrash posted this:
    "According to:
"An Annoted Inventory of Outdor Sculpture in Washtenaw County" by one Einar Einarsson Kvaran, 1989,
the following claim is made regarding the Old Detroit PO building. In 1932, Emil Lorch then Dean of the U of M School of Architecture purchased, for $200, some remnants from the Detroit PO building to be placed around the architecture building [where they still are, I think] This fragmant used as a base for Carlton Angell's bas-relief as part of a WWI Veteran's Memorial located in Washtenong Memorial Park was likely aquired at the same time. I parrticularly like the use of the word "rebuilt."

Does anyone know if they are still there? I'm specifically looking for that piece that has the shield on it.

If memory serves me right, those pieces were still outside Lorch Hall [[now the economics building) in 2005. Some of the more recent attendees of the U of M might have better information.

Yeah, when I left there last summer at the SW side of Lorch Hall there were some old architectural pieces serving as sculpture...very Greek ruin-like haha. It's logical that it could be the pieces of which you speak.

That's probably them! Thanks! I'll try to swing by the next time I'm in Ann Arbor ... which may be a while. Good to know that they're likely still there. Found this photo on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anikarenina/541550011/

I'm thinking that might be one of them.

The column base and capital has since moved to the Art and Architecture Building on North Campus.
