Default Nicole Curtis is back in Town

Unless this was previously discussed and I missed it, I had no idea that not only is Nicole Curtis working on another Detroit project, its a Land Bank Auction property! A big house on E. Grand Boulevard.

I can't wait to see the progress on this.

She's pretty cool, that's exciting to hear. I remember when I first saw her on TV, I knew she was in in Minneapolis but she talked and instantly knew she was a Michigander, and she was! Thick accent!

A soft on the eyes woman that that has a national tv show about her love for fixing up old houses back in the D? I'm in, good for us.

Does she actually "construct" anything, or just prance around in Daisey Dukes and tight t-shirts?

She is pretty adorable, but she does not sexualize herself. She does most of the restoration work that does not require a license herself and usually gets local specialists to help out with things like plaster, electricity and plumbing. I wish I had half her skills...

Here is a video of the house she is working on: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v...type=2&theater

I watched a couple of her videos yesterday, and they consisted of contractors giving her pricing and an evaluation of the issues. I never did see her doing anything, [[other then her blonde hair flying while on her scooter) hence my question. She is, what we used to call, "a looker".

Shes a realtor and designer...not a licensed contractor. In a random six degrees of separation way I knew of her before her show. In her off screen life doing the real re-habs and flips in Minn, "hands on" is an understatement. The show makes use of her being really easy on the eyes but she's really running the renos [[and doing a lot more behind the scenes) it's how she made a living.

Ouch...as if because she's an attractive woman she must have no skills. I know you said later in the thread that you watched a few videos, but if you watch a few episodes of her show [[more than just a few video clips), you'll see that she's the real deal.

She of course hires a crew to help her, but she is in the trenches with them, doing the manual labor. Looking beautiful while getting dirty and working up a sweat. I've watched many episodes and I guarantee you that no one on the show is working harder than she is. Her show is on DIY and also maybe HGTV, and also on demand on Comcast I believe.

Thanx for the info. I'll glad you regained your composure. To be perfectly honest, I always wondered what Bob Villa's purpose was on the show. He never seemed to get his hands too dirty either. TV is TV. It's purpose is to draw in viewers and generate revenue, whether it's PBS or NBC.

I like her philosophy-maintaining as much of the original details as possible and she does get hands dirty.

Also she has purchased 571 E. Grand Blvd., and a house on W. Boston Blvd.

On her Facebook page from August 22, it says that season 6 is "all Detroit"! That is really exciting.

Anyone who is at all interested in saving old houses should take a look at her show. Not only does she do great work, she fixes up houses that are often condemned and would otherwise be torn down. Her Campbell Street Detroit project from a season or so ago involved a fire-damaged property that I think would typically have been slated for demo by the city.

One unusual aspect of her work that she "restores" more than "rehabs." Her kitchens and bathrooms are way more period authentic than is typical, with many original cabinets, fixtures, tiles, etc. retained. She does not gut and put in "new" kitchens and baths. That makes her work different from other HGTV or DIY renovation shows.

It's interesting knowing that she is from all the way out in Lake Orion that she chooses these projects w/in Detroit city limits. Way to go!

Do y'all think reality shows are actually reality? Or, don't you think they're scripted? Except for Lizard Lick Towing - of course that one is 100% real.

The whole season will be in Detroit? This is real good for us. Her enthusiasm for saving what is in bad shape and fixing them up on a budget is really the key point in the show. Nothing at all like Bob Villas deep pocketed owners with many contractors and good neighborhoods. She invests her own money in the houses and did it for a living before she was approached to do the show.

A good episode Thursday evening. Although somebody needs to tell her its East Grand Boulevard not Grand Boulevard, and its a British Arts & Crafts house not a Tudor.

Any of us could tell her the former, but the latter would best come from an expert. I nominate you! When I saw you posted, I was hoping it was a nice tidbit about the history of the house.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find any info on the house.

Growing up in the city I always heard older Detroiters simply referring to it as "The Boulevard". So there's that too...

Quite nice coverage for Nichole in Model D today.

It's interesting that they determined the original manufacturer of the clay roof tiles is still in business in Ohio, and were able to obtain replacements tiles
