Main thing I remember about the '60s [[other than The Andy Griffith Show!) was Lou Gordon giving his weekly take on matters, especially in July of 1967. Good topics, 'burb.

Laugh-In was a favorite. They were always wrestling with their censors, trying to make their job a nightmare.

Green Acres was a favorite too. Pity Oliver Wendel Douglas having to put up with all those loveable idiots surrounding him! Mr. Kimble was wise beyond his years, no, months, no, weeks, no, actually, days.

And a sentient pig! Where else in this universe can you find a sentient pig?!

    Classic '60s & '70s TV Commercials

17 minutes. Heh, corporations desperately attempting to infect the psyche of their customers, stumbling amateurishly all the way.

What I remember most is the commercials for a car dealership, don't recall which one, but the jingle is still running thru my head right now. "here dog, come on dog, me and dog want to go to telegraph rooooad right nowwww. Get a good deal."

When I was in 4th grade, Sr. Solania took our class to Windsor to be on Bozo. Also loved Soupy Sales with Whitefang and Blacktooth.

And, Man! do I remember Channel 7's coverage of the '67 riots because Dad was in the DFD and that was the only way that we could hear how he was doing for days on end. Think that, in addition to Bill Bonds, there was another anchor - Ken Thomas?

So, for the rest of us pre-colored TV: do you remember the plastic strips that you could buy to put over the screen to give a color effect? It was green n the bottom, red in the middle, and blue across the top. They always advertised them showing fire trucks because those were the only pictures where the solid red across the middle really worked.

I used to watch Ask a Silly Question. A kids show in WDIV Channel 4. Kids tell jokes see and do projects and many more activities.

The Hot Fudge Show on Channel 7 was getting very popular. Puppets that explain feelings to every child. They even have a write-on comments and a game show called Name that Feeling.

I have fond memories of summertime when it was "monster Week" on Ch 7 4:30 movie! The streets would clear and at 6:00, everybody would come back outside & want to play fight like Godzilla!

Also, it was so exciting around this time of year because all the new Saturday morning cartoons would premier. I would get so excited watching the previews which usually came on the Friday before!

Remember those days well. Thankfully, I was smart enough to do my homework, watch the shows till mom got home at 5:30, get outside, and be back in by 8. When trying to watch those old shows online, I can hardly find anything I haven't watched [[except the movies). The cartoon previews were "the" event of Labor Day!! Yet, with phones, cable, and other tech, none of the local commercials seem to garner that nostalgic feel of 'Mr. Belvedere, Fretter, Highland Appliance', etc.. Hopefully with govt access stations and more channels, we can generate a local presence again with homegrown content like Bozo and Soupy that can have a national reach. If our voice gets out there, our message will too.

Wasn't Lou great? He was the first TV talk show host to tackle
edgy topics head-on. Here are two archival threads from DY:
