Default Detroit Hole in the Wall Week

The dates for the 11th edition of Detroit Restaurant Week were anounced today. http://www.freep.com/article/2014082...Week-2014-fall

If Detroit had a "Hole in the Wall Week", which establishments[[ bar, restaurant, street vendor, etc) would you nominate to be a part of it?

Well, it's in Northville, but it seems to belong, Genitti's Hole-in-the-Wall.

Of course for a real hole in the wall feeling, can't beat, Lou's Finer, or Scotty Simpson's, at least that fits my hole-in-the-wall image.

How about any establishment[[ and I use that term loosely), that would not be considered for Restaurant Week, Bar Week, or any other Week.

Dan and Vi's on Chene. Their deli slices are tasty and unique.

I think in this context it would mean any restaurant that puts so much effort into perfecting their food that they sacrifice everything else [[maintenance, lighting, painting, cleanliness, etc.).

The best example I can think of [[unfortunately not anywhere near Detroit) would be the wildly popular Chino Bandido in Phoenix. That place was a dump but their sweet & sour Jade Red chicken with beans and rice was to die for.

Heh. Even their website is crap. But oh, that food!

Tucked away in the shadow of the Eastern Market is Cutter's, my favorite Hole in the Wall.

    That burger looks gigantic!

I so used to love the Round Bar on Chene, that was a real hole in the wall. Soup and bread, meat pierogis with sour cream, my favorite lunches of all time. Wish it was still there. Maybe there is another such hideaway.

this is a great topic. when I think of hole in the wall i think:
    1) Small
    2) kinda off the beaten path

I completely forgot about Capers. That place benefitted greatly from the smoking ban. 18 once delmonico butterfly cut with mushroom and grilled onions please.
