Default New DEGC Boss Appointed to Replace George Jackson

Don't know anything about this guy, I just know a city with as much corruption history as Detroit should probably avoid New Orleans. Also, hopefully this guy's work in Glendale wasn't with the Coyotes' arena lease, which has been a total economic disaster for that city.

Can anyone elaborate on the status of the DEGC? iirc its functions were going to be absorbed by the city and Jackson resigned because his role was no longer really going to exist. And then there was something about the Obama administration directing money to Detroit but refusing to have the money go through the DEGC?

I think you can surmise that, given Mayor Duggan's statements at the press conference, he will not be abolishing DEGC.

Not sure there is any reason to disparage his NOLA experience at face value. Plus if you've been there, you know that common ground it has with Detroit plus the things we should emulate. Was this man tied to ex-mayor Nagin? If not, I'm not too worried.

If the DEGC can focus more on being a traditional growth catalyst, i.e. just getting the employers to come to Detroit, without meddling too much on land use issues and without focusing inordinately on downtown, I think we'd be well-served.

so what, if anything, are they going to develop in the residential neighborhoods, not just downtown? 'More of the same' isn't good enough.
