A Piece of Detroit's Musucal Legacy: Strata Records

Strata Records was the record label of the Strata Concert Gallery, a jazz, art, and other music venue that was on on Selden off of Woodward and attracted major jazz names in the '70s. The record label was run by late Kenn Cox and recorded several well-known local jazz musicians, as well as some other now-obscure [[but well worth hearing) music. It also was part of the genesis of the better-known Strata East label in NYC.

Many of these recordings are now difficult, or impossible, to find, and few have ever been reissued. Now a Brooklyn DJ named Amir Abdullah has gotten together with Kenn Cox's widow Barbara and has been working to reissue the Strata catalog. He has gotten out the first few reissues, and has now started a campaign on Indie GoGo to try and raise a little money to make more reissues possible and continue to get more of Detroit's musical heritage out there again.

There's very little time left [[Aug. 12) and, so far, not enough funds.
