    Default Margaritaville in downtown Detroit

Jimmy Buffet said he was interested in putting a restaurant downtown in this interview before his concert in Comerica. He said since he spent so much time playing clubs in the area early in his career he has special affection for Detroit.

I don't think that end of town is trendy enough for a guy like Jimmy Buffet.

I never have, and never will, understand the obsession with Jimmy Buffet.

Couldn't agree more. It's the case of the nostalgia act becoming more popular than it ever deserved to be in its prime. And seeing John Fogerty ending his career playing second fiddle to Jimmy Buffet is just sad.

Jimmy Buffet is a super marketing machine. When he stopped getting radio play, he simply created his own internet radio station and later broadcasted over Sirius. On top of that his restaurants are popular all over. What he is good at is to show a lifestyle of warm weather relaxation and just kicking back. To a lot of people they find it very compelling.

I was on a balcony kiddie corner to the Buffet concert and was lucky enough to hear him jam a Scarlet Begonias by the Grateful Dead, what a treat..

I'm a 23-year old guy, and I grew up listening to Jimmy during my first job, carpeting boats and yachts all around Northern Ohio and Southeast Michigan. It grew on me because of the types of songs and what was happening. To me it's about relaxation, having a great time, and drinking and eating. That sounds like a pretty good life to me, I enjoy his songs. You don't have to, and many don't, but plenty of people do.

Cherokee Casino in Tulsa has done very well since the Indian owned casino added a hotel 5 years ago. They were wise to hook up with a franchise like Hard Rock. News story just before opening 5 yrs ago :

Nearby the River Spirit Casino Tulsa is now building a hotel and will become a Margarita ville franchise.

If one of the Casinos really needs a profit booster, this could help Detroit Casino business and tourism

The thing with Buffet is that if you only listen to songs like Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise and just stop there, it would get annoying. As a fan of his, those songs are all fun and great...in moderation.

Like many artists, if you dig deeper past their hits you find a lot more variety and a lot of truly better songs than the ones that were crafted for radio. Over the course of his career he's known for his island sound, but he's also done some very traditional country, swing, bluegrass, zydeco, rock, and pop as well.

That being said, he's a near shameless self-promoter too.
