Tom had a great career at the Detroit News, and I'll admit even working in D.C., before the Internet, having lunch and going to a downtown newsstand and buying the Detroit News a couple times a week to get all the stories on Detroit [[and MI) high school sports.
Tom was a legend covering high school sports.
Detroit h.s. sports aren't anything like they used to be. I remember the 1992 [[?) Dream Team, Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Vashon Leonard, Theron Wilson [[he had a nice career at EMU; he played on the 1996 NCAA team which beat Duke and beating Duke is not anything to forget), and one more.
I'm old enough to remember Lofton Greene at River Rouge and my high school getting blown out of the gym time and time again.
Those were the golden days of Detroit PSL and Detroit area h.s. sports.
Sadly those days are gone too.
I wish Tom a great retirement.
I think Tom feels this way: "If you love your work, you never worked a day in your life."
