Default Cracks in the Glass Ceiling: 1st female commander at Warren Army site

And make that an African-American Major General. Maj. Gen. Gwen Bingham takes command of TACOM [U.S. Army-Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command] Warren today.

TACOM might be described as the last remnant of the Detroit "Arsenal of Democracy" heavy metal military production, producing armored vehicles for the army and providing 7,400 local jobs.

Reflecting back on our history just think of how unthinkable this would have been during the real Arsenal of Democracy days when the military was segregated and Rosie the Riveter was about the best role women could hope for and then most often only if they were the 'right' ethnicity. Think of all the talent that must have been wasted.

Yeah its a good thing we all don't live in that evil racist past or attempt to apply today's social environment and standards to that of say 60 years ago. Its a good thing president truman started the ball rolling back in '48. I guess your point is we've come a long way baby...well yeah.
