It's not just our famous phone area code but this year is also our 313th birthday.
I noticed that from an email regarding a Detroit Artist Market exhibition on that theme.
It also make me wonder if there are any other famous Detroit numbers. None comes to mind. Got any?
313
June 6 - July 12, 2014
Opening reception: Friday, June 6th, 2014 6-9pm
In commemoration of Detroit's 313th birthday, the Detroit Artists Market [[DAM) has gathered nine preeminent photographers whose striking visuals form a tribute to the city we love.
Explore familiar and lesser-known aspects of Detroit through the eyes of these great photographers who range from talented recent college graduates to the patriarch of Detroit photography, Kresge Eminent Artist Award-winner, Bill Rauhauser.
The 313 photography exhibition is filled with uplifting images that touch on a variety of Detroit-centric themes, including car culture, immigration and diversity, urban agriculture, and notable city architecture. Don't miss this opportunity to visualize Detroit's past and present through truly rare photographs, like the Carlos Diaz series "Unknown Landmarks," a body of work last shown 26 years ago at the Museum of Modern Art in Bogota, Columbia.
"313" will open on Friday, June 6th from 6-9pm with a Detroit birthday cake reception! In addition to the exhibition, DAM will also be hosting a Gallery Talk moderated by artist and curator, Gary Eleinko on Saturday, June 28th, 2014 at 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with the exhibiting photographers.
