Default How come there has never been any popular singing groups named Detroit?

I always wonder why there has never been a singing group named Detroit? Motown arguably produces the best musical talent in the world and I know carrying the name Detroit is a lot to live up to.

But there have been other groups that took their cities names and backed it up by creating some of the best music EVER made. Example: Boston, Chicago, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, The Manhattan's, Ohio Players to name a few.

I know the Spinners were first introduced as the "Detroit Spinners" [[referring to hubcaps) but are there any other hugely popular groups named Detroit that I don't know about?

I have been looking for a copy of that LP at a Garage or Estate sale for years but no success. I'm patient though. Anyway, you can read a few pages about "Detroit" in this book :

Détroit is a pretty big act in France. One of the two musicians is Bertrand Cantat, who is a sad character, killed his wife actress Nadine Trintignant in Lithuania in 2003 and only served 4 years in prison.

They were only called the "Detroit Spinners" in Britain to differentiate them from a British group of the same name. They were always just "The Spinners" here in the U.S.

Somewhat interestingly, The Spinners never had a big hit until they left Detroit and started recording in Philadelphia.

How synergistically strange, we had this exact discussion at a diner between Bellaire and Petoskey over breakfast Sunday morning, when Chicago popped up on their background audio system...too funny.

    Cheers!

Detroit band names? Well, there was a cross-dresser who called himself Wayne County. Remember him, or ever heard of him? He later changed his [[her?) name to Jayne County.

Wayne County and the Electric Chairs! Real punk pioneers from the Max's Kansas City days in NYC. Saw them once in NYC many many moons ago. S/he is from Atlanta and NYC though, was originally named Wayne [[Something Else), and I think pretty pulled the name "Wayne County" out of a hat.

I just learned that Oakland, California based band "Tower of Power" was original named "Motown."

But they're not from Detroit of course...
