    Default Large construction crane downtown

I haven't had a chance to get downtown in a while so I was puzzled watching the Tigers game the other night. They put up a shot on screen that showed the skyline and pretty much straight away centerfield there was a crane off in the distance. I was curious what is being built?

Interesting. Looking straight beyond centerfield would be say in the Gratiot/Brush area [[or beyond).

    Greektown Hotel/Casino area?

Might it be something near the jail site but that might be a little off directionally.

I was wondering the same. Definitely not the jail site, this was appears to be near the Z Garage area.

We are using a crane to stock materials at the David Whitney Building this week.

The Bates Garage site is basically straightaway center. There's no way Gilbert has started construction there, is there?

Don't think it would need a crane, but it's a little unusual to build a new two storey retail site downtown. It's not like there's a space shortage.

The Detroit Athletic Club is putting an addition on their building. They are adding two restaurants and a cigar bar on their roof... hence the need for the crane.

I presume it's going on the back side over the other two story addition. I imagine that will give them some great sight lines right into the ball park. Heaven forbid if they add it to the top of the old structure. Got any links to media reports on this, esp1986?

DWB has the only big crane downtown right now. 313rd has it. God people get out and walk the streets for petes sakes, don't you get bored of staring at your led screens?

Well I live in Flint and have not been down in a few weeks, sorry to disturb you with a reasonable question. There is no way the crane on TV had any thing to do with the Whitney anyways as the Whitney is not visible from the angle of the camera.

I also live many miles away and come to this site for info. Besides, as Gumby stated, it was not close to the Whitney and appeared further south than the DAC. By the way, it appeared to be gone during yesterday's game.

Stop posting questions about Detroit in the Detroit forum Gumby, seriously. What were you thinking? This forum is only for bitching about suburbs vs city and posting vaguely racist opinions.

I was at Monday's game and the crane was being used to move materials onto the roof of the DAC. I was also at yesterday's game and the crane was still there but not extended any longer. The work on the DAC roof was ongoing.

But it will still include glass walls, allowing you to see the actual game [[and without any TVs-but because it's impossible to mount one onto a glass window without it shattering).

All you rich people come down from the hoity-toity N suburbs like Flint and are too scared to walk around? Have fun in your sprawlville shangri-la visiting fancy places like the Dort Mall!
