If he was unwilling to pay $350M for the team with a local fan base, why would he bid twice that [[or more) to buy the team without one? Also, unlike the NHL, the NBA maintains approval of team movement. They might have let the Clippers move when they were terrible, but they wouldn't now that they are good. And they would never let them move to a market with an existing team. The Pistons joining the Wings downtown is the only scenario for Detroit to have a team in the city.
