Downtown Mobile, Sam Zammit - on Michigan Ave. across from the Gaelic League - it's not a gas station, it is a repair shop. Used to be on Grand River in a converted Mobile Station and they just kept the name. Used to and maybe still do repair the Edison vehicles.

I've used Mr. Mechanic in Southfield on Telegraph near 10 mile. Good service, honest company. They have a shuttle service to your job if not too far.

Whatever you do DO NOT go to GoodYear, FireStone or Sears. GoodYear and FStone is has a standing price of $750 and above for any service including air in your tire or an air filter charge...... Rip-off clowns for certain. And Sears is too high and bad customer service. The smaller indy shops are often better, though you may have to build in more time for the work.

    BGM- thanks, i
Know about Ring and Pinion, was looking for someone to do it a little cheaper. Might have to just break down and take it there this week. Thanks everyone

Might be worth it. Some shops promise the moon and stars only to find out the jobs to complex, the honest ones will tell you. This may require someone specializing in that area, like how tranny shops do transmissions. Have a grand one.

We deal with a detroit fire fighter who has a shop near downtown. He races in his spare time and services locals. Amazing man! Fixed our hoopties many times. Always guarantees his work. Our latest hooptie we gave to a close friend on the west-side. He drags it over to do car work. At 23 it still runs great, just doesn't look too pretty. that is thanks to a drunk driver who hit our parked car and seven others. Sigh!

Hah! I may need to see him re. my 'hooptie' Sumas! Gotta keep these older cars running or face the gloom of a car note. Like not!

Call Butch at Towers Service 1.313 567.1711 He's on Gratiot across from The Gratiot Market. The place is a little funky but don't let that deter you. He'd rather repair than replace with new parts. He's busy and isn't hurting for more work but he'll fit you in or give recommendations. Check out the reviews on YELP under Towers Garage.

Thanks everyone. The differential is a specialty. I dont think any mechanic can diagnose the problem, without opening it up. Im going to take it to Ring and Pinion and Driveline Specialists. Thanks again!

Even Butch from Towers [[my mechanic) is referring people to Mack Garage. We took the housemate's car to Mack Garage today, but they were booked until Thursday, so make an appointment. Really good recommendations from the neighbors and with Butch referring overflow business there, they can't be bad.

I didn't see that you were looking for differential repair, just saw "car repair" For that type of work I'd recommend Bill's Transmission on Telegraph in Taylor, near Goddard. They used to be located in SW Detroit on Michigan Avenue near Livernois. They have been around a long time and I've used them for transmission work.
