Default New Sod Arrives at Comerica

Is anyone else a little nervous that a team that already lost its shortstop and left fielder is installing new grass on frozen ground a week before opening day?

They have little choice in the matter. But I am not too nervous; there is risk of injury every day on every field. Look at that Reds pitcher who took a liner off the face last night. It was bad, and it could have been much worse.

The hockey rink messed up the resodding, which should have happened last fall. Could be a disaster in April.

With the temps going down to the 20's at night, I am not believing that this sod is going to root. I imagine they will have to staple it down but just can't understand the physics of running on loose slabs of turf.

i laid sod a years ago and was told to stay off of it for a month, and that was in the late summer.

Ground ball pitchers like Porcello should love it. Nice soft squishy sod deadening hot gound balls. Just as long as it isn't frozen hard...

they are going to staple it down, there is no way, no how, its going to take root in time... if its rainy its going to be a mess, i don't see how even in perfect weather that its not going to be poor field conditions....

It will be poor conditions for a little bit. They chose to re-sod in the spring. In most years it would have been at best a minor nuisance. This year will be a little ugly, like old days before modern techniques, drainage and lawn care. Maybe they should play this season in the old-timey uniforms.
