I think she [[or her "team") are deliberately using the middle name of "Rose" to confuse people, especially the elderly, who might think they are voting for the other "Rose" -- neither of which smell too great.

I will be the first to say this: if Detroit re-elect Martha-"Rose" Reeves, the city should go into receivership. There is no way this woman should have been elected the first time and a second time would be a nightmare. Detroit knows when to toss the nuts out. [[see, Currie, Jackie)

You will find attached the front side of this abomination of a campaign flyer in all it's glory.. I saw it the other day on Woodward.

It's a train wreck and insulting. I thought to myself Motown wouldn't be too pleased with this.. and to obfuscate her name, and more importantly not deal with ANY issues, not even in a cursory manner, is sorta disgusting. And frankly, what the hell does Motown have to do with our issues? Or that she was part of the Vandellas? What crack pipe is she smoking? You need stuff stronger than alcohol to come up with this masterpiece.

She is a helluva personal ambassador for the city and I hope she continues on in that role, but as a public official, I have little patience for her and most of the council. In my city where 1 out of 5 people has no job, we need people who will at least show up to work, not to mention have the skills to deal with the problem. This is not a game... it's time to "do work, son!"

p.s. - Look, sometimes the best decisions aren't made, but cool it everyone on the "People of Detroit show their ignorance" tip. I hear this crap all the time here, other sites, in person, and it's gotta stop.

We're not all ignorant. And to a lot of people, it comes off as racist mainly because for decades Detroit has been and continues to be a euphemism for black. No need to inflame things here, it just plays into people like this's hands who use it for their political benefit. I've been to the rallies. Those words are taken in and pointed to to rally folks who have no hope and manipulate them and that power you're giving them needs to be taken away.

The flyer that Ms. Reeves dropped and it so scream of trademark infringment shows how desperate she is to get re-elected. Her campaign manager has to be straight out of barber/beauty school. She uses the Vandellas as a prop to get fans to reelect her. When Roger Weber asked her if the Vandellas were also run for CC, she had one of the dumbest responses and one of the stupidest looks you can have on television. Finally, what is with the name Rose? Does she think that having Rose on her name is going to inspire fans of BRC to vote for her because she is using Rose.

Curious....I would how Motown...Universal Motown would feel about Martha-Rose using their logo on her campaign flyer when she is not an artist for their label?

I noticed how he started his column: "I can understand why Martha Reeves has so little regard for the intelligence of Detroit voters. They did elect her to the City Council four years ago based entirely on their fond memories of her name on old Motown album covers."

This the reason why I didn't vote for her as well as Monica Conyers. They would use their name to get in and it worked because some dumb Detroit voters thought that it would be great to have to these two on the council. Four years later, the council is a mess. I pray that Detroit can get it right this time.

Wouldnt a "republican hack" always see a sham in any campaign in detroit? It'd be more of a story if a democratic hack/shill like Debbie Dingell wrote this piece.

it's more than "some". I mean Conyers was the second highest vote getter on council...right behind cockerel. You may not have voted for these two, but plenty did.

She's running entirely on her music career, but I think the fact that "The Vandella's" [[which should be "The Vandellas") is spelled wrong on her flier sums her up pretty well.

And I like that being a member of a golfcourse makes her qualified to be on the council. Anyone off the street can be a member of those organizations.

And of course the only thing on her website other than filler text is a biography ripped from amazon.com and some youtube videos. Not only that, but the entire website is a free template from the internet that no one even bothered to fill in with their own text.

But the people who would vote for her probably aren't going to go to the website anyway, and are going to eat that flier up.

The reason I said "some" is because you are voting for nine, not one. If she was one of two running and I said some, you could ding me, but the votes are spreaded among 18 candidates. So the word "some" was justify.

I caught that too. "Tom" It was interesting to watch this woman on television explain her reasons for doing what her heavenly father tells her what to do.
