Default MODELD: Big News about Argonaut project????

    http://modeldmedia.com/developmentne...naut20009.aspx

"Stay tuned for big news about the Argonaut Building! The College for Creative Studies is making an announcement about its redevelopment Tuesday morning, and Model D will update this space as soon as we have the details."

    What could it be?

well the redevelopment has been announced for a while now, the freep article doesn't really provide any details not in the public realm, or at least nothing worth calling a press conference, [[which it seems is basically what CCS is doing)

    Default YEP Art Charter school.

It is in fact going to be a charter. Actually an art based charter of the digital media kind. I kinda think its good [[I'll try to teach there)

One thing that this development shows us is all the historic tax credits and other monies that can be available to other possible historic buildings, such as the Lafayette Building. Much of these monies will be forever lost to any new development there, should it end up a parking lot first. [[Not to mention the quality materials and workmanship.)

According to the CCS Dean, who appeared on WDET's Detroit Today, the Argonaut had been sealed tight for 10 or more years. GM provided security and kept the heat and lights on with the intention to turn it over to the right group. A cocktail party conversation between the Dean and the GM property guy ... the same fellow who is with Rock now ... was the jumping off point. CCS wanted to expand, GM wanted to get some property off its balance sheet and could use a tax right-off...

No broken pipes, no buckled walls, no swimming pool in the basement... as much bad press GM gets, on this one they get high marks.

Last time I was near there, it appeared that a surface parking lot was being developed just south of Cass between Baltimore and Milwaukee. Will this lot be a part of CCS or is it being developed by someone else like the city? I personally had high hopes that this property which faces Woodward as well would have been developed for retail. More specifically a grocery store. Just thought this would have been a great location for one.
