    Default Who got busted at MCS Saturday night?

    Was driving through the MCS subway around 11pm last night and spotted a group of people [[10-12 in total) being led away in handcuffs by security folks. Anyone have the scoop?

    Oh shit! John Mohyi and myself went around the perimeter last week and found over 6 different ways to walk in there with minimal effort, some on the city's property some on the Ambassador Bridge Co.'s property. We're going to be drafting some sort of proposal to both in order to secure the place a little better because it's laughable the effort the city has put into blocking the loading bays under the viaduct and on the street behind the station [[who's name escapes me).

    Anyway I'm glad they got caught and hopefully have not caused much damage to the effort we've put into it

    I am glad that there were actually police/security doing their jobs. =) I hope that the city acts on some of the perimeter areas where there is a way into the station. Last week, I was taking some pictures outside the building and someone referenced the fact that he and his buddies were planning to play paintball inside - disturbing in light of the recent efforts to clean things up. Also, at some point last weekend someone knocked over one of the port-a-potties, unless the wind blew it.

    I know for a fact the wind in there does not blow that hard. Someone probably knocked it over and then realized they had to pee, so they left the other one up. That's a maybe situation...Other than that maybe something natural did happen because most youngfoolians like to cause total chaos which would mean both porta-johns would be knocked down.

    Subway meaning the ramp that goes under the tracks. The tracks @ MCS are elevated tracks, so when passengers and cargo were loaded on the trains they either had to take stairs or a freight elevator to get to the trains. People have been able to get in via those tracks for years, which are owned by the city, because they have been left virtually unsealed, or at least sealed with minimal effort!

    Do you think that someone who would break in and knock over a port-a-potty would be concerned about where they pee that they would leave that one standing? Do you think that makes sense?

    Yeah, it is MUCH more likely that one of 'em had to go...and while they were IN there, their wiseacre 'friends' turned the thing over on 'im.

    And they didn't have the chance to do the same trick twice...

    Detmich, I am pretty sure MCSfriend was joking. What is with all the people on this board picking apart every little thing everyone says while at the same time ignoring the larger point at hand here? It is almost like everyone is resentful that these people are finally doing something to restore the station. Do you want the MCS restored or not? Are you people so uptight that you have to reply to every little thing with a witty retort or snarky remark?

    You really are a patsy. It's owned by a BILLIONAIRE who could pay workers to clean that thing out and restore it to a sparkling shine, but dimwits like you volunteer to be slaves to clean out a building that is NEVER going to be renovated, and all that is accomplished is you make a slumlord look good.

    Well done.

    Billionaire? Abandoned train station? Perhaps you're thinking of MicroSoft co-founder Paul Allen's Union Station[[Milwaukee Road/Union Pacific) in Seattle? What a beaut;

    I think w/the loss of Tiger Stadium, MCS is too far out in the boonies to be transformative to the area like this;

    I got a chuckle out of this. I love how Detroit's own destroy themselves and their city because they're too angry at the billionaire who owns the bridge. What you say is true -- Maroun could restore the station by himself. But he is not just letting the volunteers come in for good publicity and some free work. The volunteers themselves wanted to be a part of this project -- in fact, they insisted -- because they wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves, something more permanent and something that will be a sign of progress in the city. Maroun will be paying for more down the line -- trust me, high school kids won't be hanging from cranes and doing the heavy work of engineering & constructing the repairs and restoration work. But in the mean time if some kids want to come in and sweep the floors because they want their stamp on the project, then why not let them? It spreading the word about the station, galvanizing support to save it, and prepping it for the real crews that will be coming soon. Maroun works in mysterious ways. He might not be going the full mile, but at least he's giving an inch. That's more progress than we've seen in thirty years, and if you ask me, if getting Maroun to loosen up and begin work on the station means bringing in some volunteers to do the initial work -- however odd that may seem -- I say let it happen. The city & the citizens will benefit in the end.

    I want to jump on the 'hooray for MCS' bandwagon as much as the next Detroiter, but I can't help but wonder why a West Bloomfeild Republican is eager to stamp his face all over the efforts. Well, he's a politician and I can make infrences but I've got an uneasy feeling, perhaps it's just the never ending skepticisim surrounding politicans in general.

    Here's what I mean:
    Attachment 2397

    I suppose if it saves the station, it's for the better. BTW, announcing that you found several ways into the station on a public forum is a rather dull move on your behalf. After reading a previous post about how new barriers had been put up, I gave a quick run around of the station and chuckled silently at the now 'impenratble fortress'. You might want to edit your post until the appropriate measures have been taken...

    In the mean time, do we know what they were doing in the station? Painting? Destroying? Drugging? Photographing?

    Gsgeorge... I have to agree with your sentiments... and don't give into all the negative naysayers [[or "Brian's" as I like to call them... oldtimers on this board will know what being called a "Brian" is all about... ).

    Maybe some folks here hate Maroun so much that they are blinded by that hatred, that it clouds their logic.

    As for doing volunteer work for a billionaire.... although I personally would not likely have volunteered, I by no means begrudge your love for the building [[and not for Mr. Maroun) and helping out in some small way.

    With the collaboration of Home Depot, this takes this entire clean up process up another notch or two, since Home Depot is a large corporation. I doubt Maroun would accept their help if there wasn't some serious interest in actually fixing up the building.

    If new windows/glass are actually installed, then this will again take the seriousness of the owner up another notch or two once more in getting the complex back in shape.

    However... there's still a looooooong ways to go in getting the MCS fixed up.

    But at least if it does happen, then you... Gsgeorge and also MCSfirend will one day have something to tell your grandkids... that you helped, in some small way, to bringing this building back to life...

    And if that day ever does come... then all the naysayers can tell their grandkids that they helped too... it was their keyboard bitching and ass scratching... that prompted others to take action and actually DO something...

    Are they going for a full restoration? I was under the impression that they were going to clean the place up, knock out all of the glass [[for saftey) power-wash all of the graffiti, and open up the first floor for what undoubtedly would be a slew of tourist photographers [[just like the old days)... I also heard that they were going to knock the tower down and keep the lobby, which is laughable given the effort involved. These are all second hand rumors though, any confirmation?

    Default BBC was filming there at 2am sunday morn

    I was riding my bike back from Noise Camp at the CAID and saw a huge projection on the building so I stopped to check it out. The crew was filming the giant projections for a documentary. They had been to the Packard plant and other spots that night.

    Most of that is second hand rumors, there are no definite plans for anything...right now we're kind of stalled, someone from MIOSHA saw the WXYZ 7 report and they went in to do some testing so once we find out what they found then we'll either go back to work or not. But the plan is to knock the windows out and replace them with a sheet of some new material rather than get new windows made [[though it shouldn't be hard as they are the same arches that grace Grand Central Terminal in NYC, so I'm sure they have extras seeing as that glass is replaced once every few years). The tower is staying though in the end what may happen is it will remain empty with new glass and the mezzanine and maybe two more floors will be restored for use.

    DIBC is really pushing hard for the Homeland Security to take a floor, as well as make it a new Michigan Welcome Center. They also really want there to be some shops and a few restaurants added to the main floor. But we'll see. Last I heard everyone in the office was really pumped about the project, so hopefully MIOHSA's fears will be alleviated and any problems will be rectified by DIBC

    Someone last night told me it was a group led by Phil Cooley who got pinched. Not to defame him or anything. The conversation came up cuz, if he has the keys to MCS for the landscaping effort, he wouldn't be breaking and entering or trespassing, right? I dunno. The same person, whom I trust but would not call an authority on all things Cooley, said they fined him something hefty but did not arrest anyone. It could be all heresay, but that's the rumor I'm hearing.

    The rumor I heard is that Jack Black and his brother are going to turn MCS into a recording studio/rock and roll retail center; complete with a Hard Rock Cafe Motown edition. The restaurant will serve fare laced with salt peter to curb the population growth of the city. Just like they do now at the casinos and Coney stands. I also heard they are measuring the roof to insure that geodisic domes can be built on it to conceal the mind control HAARP antennae and the secret landing point for the stealth aircraft sucking up all the cloud cover. The mere human citizens of Detroit will never understand what has occurred until the keepers of the Guide Stones come forth and disperse thair knowledge of the earth's rhythms. Then the remaining city dwellers will be corralled and transformed into a zombie work and food source for the suburban overlords.

    There is no Dana, only Zuul.
