As most of us already know this tax is strongly supported. The votes on DetroitYES give SMART the YES to renew this again at this time.

The question now is how do we get all the communities in Wayne and Oakland County to opt in? It makes no sense to leave gaps in public bus service. How should we protect and increase State and Federal funding? How can we increase user fees from fare boxes? Or, road tolls to help free up more tax money? Or, increase other revenue sources?

Without good regional public bus systems working together in southeast Michigan, we can all forget about mass transit because we are too spread out to all walk to a train station. For sure, trains will work fine to go to Chicago and AA if frequent enough and will connect the bus routes together.

So, we must fill the buses and SMART and DDOT and the RTA will need our help. We can do this.
