Wow! Quite an admission toward someone who was an avowed liberal.

Imagine, 50 years in the national/international news industry and spotlight. Most folk now do not have an attention span longer than 50 seconds.

Lived up to the sobriquet "Mosted Trusted Man in America"

Others anchored the evening news, Walter Cronkite addressed the American people every night for decades. A true original.

A little late to send a RIP, Yet none the less I watched Uncle Walter when I stayed at the Grandparents. At home it was always ABC. I think that there needs to be more honesty in the news today, Not the Dem/Republican shit we hear and see.

Yes, the venomous partisanship was far more tame back then...but we also didn't have a radical socialist in office at that time.

Walter Cronkite - the last of the true television reporters.

How I'd love to see a complete, well-researched and unbiased news story on the local or national nightly news. Not 20 minutes of teasers and 2 minutes of unsubstantiated rumor. Even the so-called 'in depth' reports on 20-20, 60 Minutes or Dateline often are no more than elaborate collections of sound bytes from other media sources.

And the so-called newspapers are even worse.

Good thing we have the internet where everything is true and current and unbiased.

Let’s not forget that all Republicans are not the stalwart champions of conservatism that, oh say, Sarah Palin is. "Uncle Walter" had to cover Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. They were the last Republican President’s who considered themselves Keynesians. Today, Nixon, Ford and their Vice Presidents would be considered RINOs. Sarah would eviscerate them with a glance! Some today may even call the Marxists! Each of these Republicans believed that it was OK and desirable for the government meddle in the economy.

OSHA was championed and signed into law by President Nixon. It’s a federal policy that, while it has admittedly saved lives in the workplace and probably reduced injuries as well, my Colbert Conservative soul asks: "AT WHAT COST?" In my opinion this law unfairly limited the freedom of employers to do what they want when they want. The law and its administration forces covered employers to divert profits, that should flow to owners’ pocketbooks, into “making the workplace safer.” What a load of ____! If workers don’t want to work at dangerous jobs for low wages, they can always find work elsewhere...or form a union and duke it out with the combined forces of employers and their friendly government allies.

There is no need for OSHA, the regulation of child labor, the Equal Pay Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the NLRA, the EPA or any other government regulation that hurts the maximization of short-term profits.

The idea that government should get into regulating food, drugs, or medical doctors for that matter is crazy. I mean... THE MARKET WORKS. Maybe not as quickly as some would like, but over time and at a great cost to the vulnerable, it works.

For instance, once the word gets out that something or someone is poorly performing, the market will correct it. Why would anyone put something out there that doesn’t work? It’s in their self-interest not to…therefore any defective product or service must be there accidentally, because the provider is well aware that the market will kill them once word gets out. [[Pinto)

So if people are maimed, made ill, die or are made destitute because of dangerous employers or harmful products and services…that is just the cost of having the free market work its MAGIC. And as a Social Darwinist who loves and admires the rich and well-born, I know that the few, the proud, the elite of this nation will survive whatever the market throws at them as long as government gets out of the way.

I am just glad that today we have FOX News to put the proper spin on any short term fall out that the market permits on the way to its final judgment, and we no longer have to listen to liberal media claim the unregulated short-term profit maximizing market doesn't work if we don't want to.

I have to agree...even GWB borders on being a RINO by virtue of his positions on amnesty for illegal aliens, spending on entitlements, and government bailouts.

There are no old style conservatives anymore, just the neo-cons running the GOP into the ground and making it home to the radical fringe right.

Barry Goldwater must be turning over in his grave.

In order to do that, you must first banish the tax and spend neo-cons from your ranks and don't expect them to give up their power without a fight.

I thoroughly agree with that comment of yours Detroitej72. We will not banish them all, but enough to reverse course towards socialist purgatory....I hope.
