For some reason this name rings a bell. Frequent drinker occassionally got car impounded in the western suburbs maybe [[not positive on that)?

LIVONIA, Mich. - Livonia Police have recovered the body of a white male at a home in the City of Detroit.

It is believed that this is Gary Gagnon, the man missing since 3/29/09, from his home on Robert Street in Livonia.

Positive identification is expected later today.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the case. Investigators say 27-year-old Matthew Christopher Williamson of Jackson is charged with identity theft after using the ATM card belonging to Gary Gagnon.

Williamson reportedly used the card at a party store in Detroit, and then again at two other spots nearby.

Police found Gagnon's home ransacked earlier this week. So far, no charges have been filed in connection with his disappearance.

Police have found the body of a 66-year-old Livonia man in a vacant building on Detroit's northwest side.

Officers found Gary Gagnon about 9 p.m. Friday in the house on St. Marys Street, Detroit Police Second Deputy Chief James Tate said. It was not clear if Gagnon was killed in the home or somewhere else and dumped there.

Livonia police have a 27-year-old Jackson man in custody and could arraign him as soon as Sunday, Livonia Police Lt. Greg Winn said Saturday. He said the suspect knew the victim and may have been aware of items of value in Gagnon's home. Money, jewelry and electronics are believed to have been stolen.


"This was not a random robbery," Winn said. "We are working now on recovering what was taken."

On Friday, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office issued a statement saying a Jackson man had been charged in an arrest warrant with one count of identity theft. A short time later, the office retracted the release, stating the man had not been charged.

Gagnon's niece, Mandy Trout, said she believes the authorities are doing everything they can to bring the case to a close.

"[[Gagnon) is a wonderful man, and we are glad this did not stretch on any longer," she said Saturday. "The Livonia Police Department has been wonderful. They are doing more than we can ask. Maybe this will give us closure."

What a sad situation for the family. No death is ever easy to deal with, but the nature of this is just sad.
