    Default Strathmore One Step Closer to New Life

    Sweet! I've been waiting for some news on this one. I can't wait to see it completed.

    This - if it happens - will be huge [[literally and figuratively). Big influx of residents into the neighborhood. Speaking of which, I'm still anxiously awaiting the beginning of construction for the LTU building and the medical office building across from MSU on Woodward. Anybody know the updated time frame on those projects?

    Exactly my thoughts - huge. Its currently such a huge eyesore in such an up-and-coming area. Getting this eyesore turned around would be fantastic, and the extra housing is really needed.

    Who decided to refurbish this again? I'm amazed that after leaving the building open to the elements for years, that at some point the owner had the nerve to try to sell it. Now, I don't know if the owner is responsible for the missing windows or the scrappers came in and removed them, but I realized that after noticing the windows missing from the CPA building that scrappers were taking the metal [[iron or steel) window weights. This is probably what happened to the Strathmore as well. At any rate, it is great to see it being renovated.

    The best tidbit from this Curbed article: According to Hamilton Anderson Associates, the project is in fact fully financed!

    It truly amazes me that these grand old buildings can be rehabbed after years of neglect and being open to the elements. Really attests to the quality of the construction and why we need to save these structures.

    I hope they keep those sweet suspended ceilings. They don't build stuff like that anymore!

    Me too, Hopefully they can do the same restoration at the Brewster Douglass site, re-habbed it could be exactly like the job at Jeffries Senior high rises

    Ain't gonna happen. Contract's already been rewarded for the demo. They've hung up a banner and done some prep work, though it looks like the towers will be the last buildings in the complex to fall.
    I am happy 70 West is getting rehabbed, though. [[That's how I know it, not the stuffy sounding name Strathmore.) I'm interested in what is currently apartment 708 if they ever get it done.

    What do you think will be put at the site as a replacement, I imagine more housing, but not mixed income due to the New Brewter Homes being directly behind the site.

    I think that a Las Vegas themed casino would be perfect for it. After all Las Vegas has a Detroit themed casino we should have a Las Vegas themed one! Someone should buy it and turn it into a casino. Maybe the Ilitch family as they already own a casino and are going to build a new stadium there. I am sure that once they get their hands on it they will not turn it into a parking lot or anything.

    I was talking to one of the bartenders at Great Lakes Coffee a couple of weeks ago and they're really concerned about parking when that place opens up. I guess the garage next to them has very limited hours [[it was closed on a Saturday night at 6PM when I was there). This is a good problem to have, but I assume that the Strathmore will use some land around it for parking.

    I know some connected with this building and it will be done .
    He's already been through it and it has some great graffiti !
    I've seen some of his pics , they are great I wish they could keep them .
    on a side note this is the same guy doing the LTU, yes they are doing both .
    they are finishing up the small money issue , but I'm %98 sure these both are a done deal .
    he's also the same guy who just finished the Woodward gardens and apartments so I trust his word

    I like how this Curbed article refers to the Strathmore as midtown's "biggest blight monster" as well as a "cube of blight." Both accurate characterizations currently. Renovating this building will have a major impact.
